Being Called a liar!! I can't tell you how much that irritates me. It's tossed out so loosely, like it goes hand-in-hand with being in sales.

I can understand in the history of salesmanship, there have been unscrupulous types, but it's borderline profiling to lump us all in. I try to take into consideration that I'm held fully accountable for every word I say.

Here's the real truth IMO: Buyers are liars. I've been worked for hours so the customer can have me write my best price down on a business card. When I ask them if they're taking it to a competitor to have them beat it, not one person will ever say yes. This is a pretty small town. I know all of the other competition managers so well, I have them on speed dial. It's pretty easy to follow-up on a customer taking my price to someone else. They all do it.
