I'm an Air Traffic Controller and I'm not Stressed. I've Been doing it for 14 years now. When I was still young in this career I got shocked one day. It was the First time I saw a Plane Crash. That day Sucked, But other than that. No stress. Now my Sisters on the other hand are Balls of stress. They freak out over everything. It's kinda weird

The most stressful, and rewarding, job I've ever had is being a parent.

I think in todays society there aren't many jobs that don't offer stress in some form or another. Pressure form management usually down to finances is pretty much everywhere at the moment.
I used to work in architecture and project management. It got to the point where I was losing sleep so I looked for something different - I am now a postman. No stress as such but a lot of pressure due the point raised above.
My wife works at management level in healthcare and again the stress and pressure in her job boils down to targets and finances.

I think a lot of it depends on the person and how you view things. I've been a E911 dispatcher for a police/fire and EMS center for over 20 years and I rarely get stressed. Overturned vehicles and shootings are just a day at the office. I learned a long time ago that I can't control the world, people do stupid things that's why I have a job. The only real stress I have at work comes from inter-office conflicts over policies. Plus, I leave my work at work, when I come home it's time to be with my family and play with my stuff.

I understand what you mean about the management being more stress than the job...I figure they can only take me outside and shoot me in the head once...

My job can be stressful sometimes. What's most stressful for me is when parents don't back you up or do anything to discipline their kids. The second most stressful thing is that parents don't check their mailboxes (no matter how many times they're reminded to do so), so they don't know about school closures or special events.

LOL! Yes, let the floggings begin. When the folks at work start to get stressed about events I always tell them the same thing. If nobody died during your shift it was a good day. If somebody did die but you didn't kill them it's still a good day. But, if you did kill them, I'll probably have to write you up.

A little gallows humor goes a long ways on a bad day.

As a network engineer, system crashes and outages are very stressful. Its not the actual outage, but the screaming customer, and the managers that feel they can help you fix the problem by standing over your shoulder.

AMEN BROTHER!!! My one job is constantly downsizing (which adds to the ambient stress levels) and is SEVERELY topheavy, so we get a lot of management types constantly trying to demonstrate their usefulness. Translates to serious levels of micromanaging and increasingly idiotic rules, regulations and new policies.

I find most of my job stress comes frmo the lack or work ethic from far too many of my colleagues.....the lazy, pass the buck mentality runs rampant in the office I report to. What's worse, manangement turns a blind eye to it. I guess if I had crappy work ethic it would not bother me so much, but that is not the way I was raised.
