Yes, I like View to a Kill, Walken is a great villain, and it's also my fave Bond song... BUT the action scenes (except the climax) are laughably bad, and Tanya is terrible.

View to a Kill was Moore's last Bond film by his own choice. He objected strongly to the scenes where Walken machine guns helpless people in the water and said he no longer wished to be associated with the films if this was the path they were going down.Comment

Hmmm. He was also showing his age to a considerably larger degree than in any previous outing. The man was practically geriatric by this point. I think Moore's moral objection may have been a cover story rather than the truth.
Certainly there are other Bond movies in which unarmed people die on-screen, and in any case those "helpless people" were knowingly and willingly planting bombs along the San Andreas fault and preparing to flood it with sea water, which would have killed millions. So, not that I am for the death penalty, but in the context of this science fiction story those characters got what they deserved.Comment

I'm a huge Bond fan. I always think it's neat how different Bond fans' lists are, though Goldfinger usually appears nar the top.
1. Goldfinger
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. Dr. No
4. From Russia With Love
5. For Your Eyes Only
6. Casino Royale
7. The Spy Who Loved Me
8. Diamonds Are Forever
9. Licence To Kill
10. Die Another Day
11. Octopussy
12. Goldeneye
13. Quantum of Solace
14. Thunderball
15. Never Say Never Again (if you count it)
16. Tomorrow never Dies
17. Man With the Golden Gun
18. The Living Daylights
19. You Only Live Twice
20. The World Is Not Enough
21. A View To a Kill
22. Moonraker
23. Live and Let Die (I can't stand the hillbilly sherriff. He also nearly ruins MWTGG)Comment

I always thought Connery was the best bond but his movies were too cartoonish for me and I can't sit through them
I grew up in the Moore era, I did not like Dalton but did like Brosnon. Still up in the air with Craig. I liked Casino Royal but have not seen the new one yet.
Favorite 5.
1. For your Eyes Only
2. Live and Let Die
3. Goldeneye
4. Spy who Loved Me
5. Moonraker - just kidding, this movie was a mess. 5. is actually Die Another Day. Love that Halle Berry.
worst film by far was Never Say Never Again. Plot sucked, replacement actors sucked and Connery was way too old by that point.Comment

Most bond movies look pretty much the same within one actor's era so I have a hard time picking an order.
I usually love bond films.
Connery and Moore are my favs then Brosnan then GL and TD the DC
I came on board with the Moore era so, though I understand the extra campiness and his weakness in the role, I think fondly of his era.
So I think Moonraker tops the list
I haven't seen the newest Bond because CR was too bad.
(did I just turn Vort's list upside down?)
I also saw most of the connery ones on tv as a kid and loved them.
This is where I really merge one film into the next so it is hard to order them.
Dalton and Lazenby can stay or go. Adequate bonds and bond films.
Brosnan was in my other favorite (besides MR) bond movie: Golden Eye.
Tomorrow was OK. I HATED Die another day <the worst bond movie to date.
Best Bond Girl? Too many to choose from.
Worst: Christmas Jones and Jinx

I was really a classic Bond freak (Connery and Moore) before the Austin Powers movies came out.
When I seen Powers I really liked it a lot ... I never noticed at the time but it kind of ruined my appreciation for classic Bond.
After Austin Powers, if I watch a classic Bond I always think of the Powers references --- I was just watching Goldfinger the other day and kept thinking of Random Task
I think a true good satire movie marks and end of an era .. Whether it's Austin Powers, Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, Airplane etc.Comment

I agree to a certain extent about the whole "end of an era" thing. After 20+ movies, the over-the-top villains and world-domination plots start to seem silly, even or especially if the movies themselves try to take it all seriously.
But that's in part what distinguishes the new Daniel Craig films -- they're more-or-less realistic action/spy thrillers, with gripping plots, real-world physics, real-world techno-gadgets, etc.
How someone can enjoy Moonraker and hate on Casino Royale is a question for the ages. I guess it comes down to what you hope for/expect from Bond: Goofy one-liners and physics-defying super-heroism, or gritty realism and no-punches-pulled action sequences? Give me the latter any day of the week!
EDIT: After watching Tomorrow Never Dies (Brosnan's second) last night, I've elevated that film's status to a three-star affair, and subsequently shuffled around the middle section of my fave list in the opening post. ;-)Last edited by Vortigern99; Jan 10, '09, 3:26 PM.Comment

I always liked Moonraker.
I didn't love it, but I like it.
It entertained me.
The whole "gritty realism" thing kind of works in reverse for me.
Jamers Bond is pure bunk (but I love it) --- trying to make him real and gritty is like putting perfume on a pig.
It's the same way I feel about the new Batman movies.
It's still fiction ... But it try's to hide itself as something else.
Hard to explain.Comment
