I actually liked her better than Julie Newmar.

I have nothing against Julie's portrayal, it's just that when I was very little, and caught the show's first set of reruns, I liked Eartha's version better.

I actually thought at the time, that she was the first Catwoman, and that she had been replaced by a white woman.

(Give me a break, I was three years old at the time; what did I know about the order of the episodes?)

From what I've heard, she was a wonderful person who truly believed in the causes that she fought for, with a generous heart.

She will be very much missed.

    Au revoir Eartha!

The "black/white Batman villain" scenario was kinda
repeated with Two Face in the B:TAS run in the 90s---
to an adult, I think it adds variety and a new spin...to a kid...it can sometimes be confusing...

I also thought Kitt handled the role well---hamming it up in her own unique
way like a good '66 Batman villain should.

She also "wore the suit" well...looked good in it...ahem...

      RIP

Do you mean Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent in 1989's Batman? In B:TAS, which was inspired in part by that movie, Dent was once again caucasian.

Ms. Kitt (what a great name for a Catwoman!) had the purr-fect voice for the felonius feline, as well as cabaret.

I see Dent in B:TAS as his classic self though I suppose you can interpret the animated Two-Face another way. It depends on how you look at it.

I look at it either as a jerk-off racist---or as one that recognizes
African-American traits in an animated character----you can "suppose"
                    any way you like.

Still don't get it Hue. Are you saying that the cartoon one was a black guy, too? And no need to bring out the racist talk when someone is just questioning your statement. To me your "Really?" with a pic of cartoon Harv is pretty vague and I didn't get it. Looking at both my BTAS Two Face action figures, he's a white and green dude both times.

In spite of feeling almost too "put out" to be passionate about
                        "explaining myself"
--out of respect for your sincere question...and concern about your concern
of my term "racist"...I will say that, yes, the cartoon guy was either black
or an attempt to put as much black features into a "white guy" without
actually calling him "black". (Regardless of how KENNER marketed and produced
                        their toy action figure)

Either way---it seems either you guys are truly "color blind"---
or I'm "whatever the antithesis is" of that

Not sure what this has to do with Eartha passing away, but Harvey was caucasian in BTAS for sure. BUT, I did have one person ask me if he was supposed to be black, so it's an honest mistake.

Bruce Timm based his animated Harvey design on one-time leading man Ralph Belamy. Most of you will remember him as the other old rich white guy from "Trading Places" (with Don Ameche).

In almost every case, Timm and co. cast an actor of the appropriate race for every character. For instance Bane was played by actors of Spanish heritage, etc.

Now, on topic, my wife mentioned Eartha passing away while we were eating supper last night. I told my son that was the old witch on "The Emperor's New Groove" and it's spin-offs, and he said "Wasn't she Catwoman too?"

                          That's my boy.

Kind of ironic she passed on Christmas Day, considering the only time her songs get airplay nowadays is during the season, and it's always "Santa Baby".

She always seemed to be a lot of fun, and had a great spirit and sense of humor about her.

I actually had one of her albums years ago. I think from the late 80s or early 90s,I really liked it. I wonder if I still have it someplace. I'll have to look.

Good Bye Catwoman, We'll miss you.

It has to do with the fact that Kitt was a part-pioneer in reinterpreting
the race of major characters in the DCU. The topic went on a discussion off that tangent...regardless of one's deeming it pertinent or not ...I
think it surely is...oh well. No disrespect intended.

That's what I thought. I wasn't the only one struck by the African-American influence/"coincidence" in skin tone, facial features, and hairstyle...
I saw it as trying to straddle the fence of "Well, Billy Dee MAY be
a new interpretation of the character...or a white man may eventually get
the role, so we'll play it safe and make him ambiguous racially."
