REAL TREE ? or FAKE TREE ? Your Tree Timeline

What did you have growing up -- all the way to today ?

In the early to mid 70's we always had a cedar .....
My mom used to insist on cedar because she said her mom and pop always had a cedar too.
She called it a poor old timers tree

In the later 70's we just had normal tree's like you'd see on a tree farm.
I don't know the type, but they were kind of lime colour and had branches that looked like tarantual legs.

By the 80's, we went 6ft fake tree

By the late 80's the fake tree was only 4ft.

What was your tree timeline ?

    BTW,
Growing up, my neighbour and best buddy always used to have a live tree.
His old man would plant it after Christmas ....
You should see them tree's today.
They're like freaking 40 ft tall now

        Pre 1975 real tree
Post 75 fake tree. About 79 we found a revolving tree and have enjoyed it ever since.

Last year I bought a $350 Pre-Lit Tree on clearance at Target (90% off) and got an additional 10% employee discount on top of that. So for $31.50 I have a 9 1/2 foot revolving tree.

To my knowledge, we always had a fake tree when I was growing up. Briefly as a young adult we tried having a real tree, but that just became too much trouble, with needles and allergies and pets. We've been using a fake 6 1/2 foot tree ever since and I'm quite happy with that.

My grandmother always has had a real tree, so I get to still experience it a lil' bit and that's fine, I don't have to clean it up hehe

Got married 10 years ago and the wife wanted a real tree so we got one. Next year we got another. While we were relaxing on the floor in front of the fireplace the tree fell on us and almost into the fire place. That was the last real tree we have had!

Growing up real all the way.I used to go with my mom and dad to get one. When I moved out of the house as a teenager in winters I worked at a x-mas tree-plant.Cutting down trees for 10 hours a day and then into the yard sorting, grading and shipping...I never wanted to see a real tree in my house ever again...LOL
Fake one for the last 14 years. My Kids don't want to get one for just a couple of weeks it would hurt nature...LOL
              Different times I guess?

For the last few years i've been using a 4' fibre optic tree.

                It's pretty neat.

Instead of needing lights, the fake needles of the tree lights up --- and changes colours.

Cost about 20 bucks at my local drugstore.

Growing up ALWAYS real. My mother would never have a fake tree in her house...

I continue the tradition in my home--always real.

I guess I can understand allergy concerns, but I've never really understood fake Christmas trees (although I kind of like those silver tinfoil trees from the 50s!). Part of the fun is the whole ritual--choosing a tree, cutting the trunk, trimming the branches, watering etc etc. Plus the pine needle smell they can give off--it's one of my fondest memories as a kid around Christmas (that and the smell of wrapping paper and scotch tape!)....

We started switching to fake when the prices of real tree's went up bigtime.
Back in the 70's and early 80's, you could find a real tree (a nice one) for about -$8-$10.00
                        Today, forget it.

Had fake trees growing up until I told mom to get a real one as I was in my teens. Out of the house and own real trees to this day.I don't care what it cost!!!

I just came home from buying the tree!

I have always had real trees. The only exception was in 1990 when my ex husband (no this isn't why he's my ex!) bought his family's fake tree into our house. I was angry. But since we had alternated years of the way we decorate the tree, I let him have his year w/ the fake tree. The following Christmas we had a real tree, and shortly after that, we divorced.

And the pic in my avatar w/ the aluminum tree was at my Gramdma's house when I was 5!
