Now I won't have a reason to stop at the overpriced "Outlet" malls during my travels. Some of their closeout prices were reasonable but rarely anything I wanted!

    Cest La Vie!
Too many toys. Not enough space!

I really hate to hear this. Although our local Kay Bee isn't anything great (years ago we had KB and another toy store as well that took up four times the floor space of our current one), it's still the only toy store within an hour's drive. It's going to be odd seeing that vacant storefront...

It's a shame, but they were always overpriced. I remember being shocked that they were charging $4.99 for one Super Powers figure back in 1985. I did spend a lot of money on 3 for $10 Toy Biz figures there, though.

Sorry to say but i'm glad they'll be gone. Never seen such a sloppy runned business. I kept thinking that all the stores in my areas got memos to make their stores look like pig pens and god forbid you ask a question the workers look at you like you have two heads.

I'm sure the workers got paid garbage so in a way I don't blame them. Toys were always overpriced and I could never find anything.

So for me that's one less garbage toy franchise! I have a Mom and Pop toy shop in my town. I try to give them all my business. Rather than the corporate toy stores.

It's sad, but that could very well be the case, as TRU is getting pummeled by Walmart. I think the only part of their business that is doing ok for them at this point is Babies R Us. Between Walmart and the way the economy is going, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of TRUs close in the near future, and then that would almost be it for honest to goodness toy stores, and it would be sad that kids in the future will miss out on that.

I remember the KB in the Garden Valley Mall in Roseburg, OR. That were I first saw a Acroyear 2 for $12.99. When I finally moved back to Oregon in 95 when I was 27. I bought a walking, Mooing, Moo Cow from KBs. I use to take it with me to my local bar and put the money for my drink in the collar and let it walk down the bar to the bartender, who would put my change in the collar and send it back down the bar to me.

My local Woolworths closed it's doors around 1985.

I miss their lunch counter more then the store itself
I used to spend afternoons in Woolworth's downtown as a kid looking at toys..I can still kinda remember the smell of hoagies & hamburgers from the grill...pop a balloon for the banana split deal!

But my fondest memory of the store was having a friend whose older weird brother could not remember the store name and always referred to it as WereWolf's. ...and that still cracks me up!

You all have to stop rushing into Walmarts Black friday blitzes and such and go back to supporting the Mom and Pop stores and smaller retails or there is only going to be one store left to choose from. Believe me I work for the evil empire and they (The big wigs in HO) are actually working for this Theres been talk of buying out K mart/Sears going around lately.

Walmart has a main frame computer that rivals the Pentagon in speed and power. They are a major part of several countries economies right now.

Kay-Bee has been barely hanging on for years, so I figured this time they wouldn't make it. The only one that was really near us now was a KB Toy Works, formerly known as Toy Liquidators. They did have some occasionally good deals on stuff, but there new stuff was still outrageously higher than Wal-Mart and TRU.

I will miss the opportunity to browse, and feel for their many employees.

AMEN, spend your money locally as much as possible and with as many independants as you can. I shop downtown every Christmas.

Spending your money locally means your money has a better chance of staying in your community, not sucked up to Bentonville.

This actually made the news last night. Ours in town have been gone for years and the cloest one to me is 90 miles away. But I haven't been to it in a while.

I did typically find deals on figures to use for customs.

Its going to be really strange to have malls with no toy store. I urge everybody I know to boycott Walmart. I haven't been in one in 2 years and never intend to be again. They really are destroying our culture in a way. Their current ad campaign is funny "Live Better", unless of course you are one of the hundreds of thousands of people forced to work at a Walmart!

If only we had a downtown left, I would. Wal-Mart killed it 20 years ago.

I do try and do most of my gift shopping elsewhere. And I support the local groceries and avoid Wal-Mart's as much as possible.
