    Woolworths ....

    That brings back memories ......

My local Woolworths closed it's doors around 1985.

I miss their lunch counter more then the store itself

That's really too bad. I remember shopping for close-outs for my babysitting charges there.

But then Playmates would almost always liquidate their Trek overstock to KB, and there'd always be plenty of 5" Trek figs in their 3 for $10 bins..

True, and I do admit .....
All my "rares" came from KB --- including Thomas Riker and Tribbles O'Brein
ToysRus never had rares -- EVER
I think the TRU employees always hand picked them before they seen the shelf

can't say I'll miss them ... I have only been in a Kay Bee a few times in my life ... there was one in salem ... but it only lasted about 3 years and that was in the mid to late 80's ... I guess there are a couple outlet KayBees that I stopped at when I was in the area, but that was just junk that never sold.

after losing Sprouses' and Jafco (Best) in the 90's I'm numb to losing the classic stores.

Truly sad. The end of yet another Iconic store from our childhood. Well on one minor point, if you were thinking about getting that Signature Series Mr. Fantastic, you better get it now because I believe KB Toys was the only one commercially selling it.

I remember BEST. They were basically a catalog store. They relied a lot on their catalog sales, but they aldo had brick and mortar shopps. The one I remember was in Langhorne, PA. It had what looked like giant, brightly colored daisies on it. Always reminded me a giant tampon box for some reason.
                    WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

I feel your pain folks.Finding and visiting a KB was always a priority on US visits!!

Back in the late 80's Canada lost most of its smaller toy chains to the all powerful giraffe. Greats like Tops N' Toys, Toys and Wheels, and Toyworld, and even not so greats like Toy City (which was short lived) all faded out at the same time. I was crushed.....still am. Even Sears Canada tried to ditch toys....some stores brought back small departments, but nothing like the glory days of the seventies. Wal Mart and Zellers still sell toys, and while the Zellers toy department still looks like some effort is being put into it on the buyers end of things, Wal Mart is a joke.....makes me miss the old Woolco toy department even more! Best department store toy departments in the nation!

Educational toy stores are popping up everywhere, but mention the word action figure inside of one, and everybody looks at you like you had a dead squirrel in one hand and a meat cleaver in the other!!!

All the Woolworth's closed in the US many moons ago. I used to go there a lot with my Grandma. Across the street was a hobby shop that we used to buy all those Aurora Prehistoric kits in but the lady that ran it was crabby and wouldn't let any kids in without a parent. Down around the block was this really old Kresges we used to go to. I'm pretty sure it had wooden floors but I may be confusing it with another store. Now that i think of it, I vaguely remember Megos at that kresges. Don't recall them at Woolworths, though.
There was a KayBee liquidator store in an outlet mall here that closed not too long ago. Their clearance prices weren't too bad but not everyhting was clearance priced and a lot of it was junk nobody would buy elsewhere (like a previous poster mentioned).

The store around here haven't had anything . It seems the only things were what nobody wanted, at higher prices. I collect legos, and they haven't carried those for years. The writing my friends, has been on the wall for years.

The only KB stores around here have been pretty lame for the past 10 years or so. When I was a kid, it was nice to go in there with my dad while Mom shopped at the mall. When I first started customizing, I used to go in there and get stuff on clearance to paint and cut apart. But in recent years, all they ever had was Spawn and overpriced Marvel Legends pegwarmers.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

                                Check out my customs!
