John Lennon Dead 28 Years Today

This just occurred to me about an hour ago. I was teaching my class about the Alamo and it dawned on me. Boy that was a sad day for this 13 yr. old kid.

Where were you when you heard the news in 1980 ?

It was in the morning ... I was getting ready for school (highschool) and I caught it on the TV news before I left.
Very shocking and everyone in school was talking about it all week.

Most people predicted chapman would be killed before he even went to trial.

I was eight and I remember it was all over the media, news, radio, magazines. You could not turn around without seeing it somewhere. It was, and still is, a very sad thing and the world is a lesser place without John in it. I took my kids to Strawberry Fields 2 years ago and we also stopped in front of the Dakota, you can't help but to think of all the great music that was stolen from the world by Chapman.

My fifth grade teacher began class that morning telling us what a jerk Lennon was for the Jesus comments in the 60's. He never mentioned anything else.

When I got home for lunch, my mom told me he died.

He was a really miserable teacher BTW...

6th grade waiting for the bus at the Elementary school to take me to Jr. High. Crappy snowy day. I remember talking about it with my principal while waiting. First time I realized the principal was in touch with stuff like that.

I can still remember the front page of the newspaper for some reason. It had a collage of pics of John through the years. I remember thinking all those pics couldn't be the same guy.

I was too young to really have been a fan at that point. That came later. A couple years ago I was in NYC and went to the spot. Very strange.

I remember watching Monday Night Football and Howard Cosell announcing it. My granddad was irritated they interrupted a Cowboys game for that hippie. I didn't really know who he was, I got into Lennon in high school. My high school history teacher was heavily into Lennon and he indoctrinated all of us. We ran around in Lennon glasses and grew long hair.

John Lennon was someone the world could have used in the 80s...and now.

I would have been nearly 13 at the time, but I honestly can't remember when I first heard about this happening. That's kind of strange, I usually have a good memory for stuff like this, and I certainly would have known who Lennon was at the time. I can't explain it.

I got really into the Beatles hardcore (and their solo careers) around 1979-ish, so this hit me pretty hard.

                        John Lennon was my hero.
At the time of his death, I had all the Beatle albums handed down to my from my mother and uncle.
I was just into his solo stuff and had a copy of Double Fantasy in November for my birthday.

Oddly enough and ironic for this place. My mother told me about John Lennon's death while I was on the floor in my bedroom playing with my MEGOS.
That day changed my life and taught me about my own mortality.

Recently, I put together a song in the fashion of John Lennon and a sorta "What if" he were alive today with my own twist. I have gotten a lot of local play for and I figured some would like to see it. (maybe)

If you get offended easy about things about anti Bush stuff then don't go here.

I was watching the Monday night game in the living room by myself. My sister and Mom were watching spanish soap operas in my sisters room and my Dad had already gone to bed.

I remember the cold chill when Howard Cossell said he was shot....I went into a panic then as they learned the news hearing Cosell say Lennon was dead I just started balling.

I went to sleep crying hoping it was a bad dream but I was awaken by my dad's radio and I heard the news....I didn't go to school I just stayed home and cried all day listening to Beatle music.

I was only 7 and was very familiar with The Beatles, but didn't know his name. I remember my brother and mother were really upset and were watching TV late.

I used to wear a black arm band on the aniv. of his death but the Army broke that habbit, something to do with uniform violations.....Always looking to add to my beatles collection.....Man I miss Lennon he was so talented
