Like Scott, I heard during the Cowboys game on MNF.
I actually live around the corner from where Lennon was shot (he was shot at 72nd and Central Park West. I live at 73rd and Central Park). I walk over the spot at least twice a day walking my dog. Sometimes I forget the spot's significance, but there's a usually a few people there taking pictures with the doorman of the building. One of the Museum Members even asked me to take him to the spot during MegoCon back in '04.
Directly across the street is the entrance to the part of the park dubbed Strawberry Fields. There's a mosaic with the word "imagine" in the middle that is decorated with flowers on a daily basis. Usually the flowers are arranged into a peace symbol.

Cool pictures. Unfortunately I have only been by the Dakota before the murder and do not remember it. Central Park where I met Lennon (the south side of the park, on a bench where we talked) will always be a place I remember. I was there in 91" and the bench was still there. I told my wife of the significance of the spot but she just didn't get it. Lennon was my hero (aside from my dad) and a small piece of me left that day.Comment

My mother told me about it the next morning. I am not a football fan, so I did not watch MondayNight Football the night it happened. I remember being a pretty disillusioned 14y/o HS freshman standing on a bus stop on Kings Highway in Brooklyn on December 9th, totally shocked. I had been listening to Double Fantasy non-stop over the previous weeks and was so excited he was making records again.
I was very into the John at the time, although I now feel his solo career has been over-rated since he died. I'm also not too crazy about the way he treated Cynthia and Julian.Comment
