Ohh, and Trek is way loaded with more hotties than SW could ever hope to have.

No. I was pointing out that the movie franchise's success and popularity crosses over into virtually all areas of that universe. Merchandising was the one example I chose to use to illustrate the point. And I chose to do it here on a toy-related message board.

But I'm glad we agree that "high-brow" cynics that poop all over highly popular / mainstream works are not very likeable folks.

Fair enough. STAR WARS is NOT for everyone. As hud, pointed out, it is basically a fairy-tale intended for adolescents... or for those with an adolescent heart. Your watching STAR WARS with "adult eyes" is quite possibly at the very core of what hampers your enjoyment of the films.

"Adult eyes" were never what STAR WARS was intended for.

And I agree with you. I don't think the original 3 STAR WARS films were "better" than the prequels either. I actually find all 6 films ENORMOUSLY and EQUALLY entertaining... each in their own unique way. It's the main point I make when speaking with people who insist that the Original Trilogy is so much better than the prequels.

Unlike hud, I actually WOULD enthusiastically recommend the STAR WARS movie saga to anyone who hasn't seen it. But I would only do so with an individual that I recognized as NOT being cynical.

I must add that whenever I watch classic TV TREK, or one of the first six Trek films, they pretty much loose more and more luster with each viewing for me. So I guess to some degree we're in the same boat, T.

Well at least that's better than the Trek movies history:

Star Trek: The Motion Sickness: A major friggin' snore... even by 1979 standards.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn: Okay. But doesn't date well.
Star Trek III: Search for Spock: I felt cheated at the end.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home: Good, but not great. Whales? What the hell?
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier: Check Please. MAJOR suckitude.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country: Okay. Not particularly memorable.
Star Trek: Generations: Okay but not great. Best part was watching the Enterprise crash and watching Kirk finally die. Bill Shatner's best acting moment as Kirk, by far.
            Star Trek: First Contact: Crap
            Star Trek: Insurrection: Crap
Star Trek: Nemesis: Big, big, big crap.

Trek 66 is the one bit of Trek that does hold up well to me. Well written, excellently cast, and a cool visual style. As I said just plain old Star Wars 1977 is better for me as a stand alone, Empire to a certain degree and especially Jedi don't have the same feel.

I don't see why people are so hard on the prequels, they are just as badly written as the original 3. Jar jar and the Ewoks are on the same level of pandering to kiddies. The dialog is just as bad in all 6 movies. If I look at it as a adolescent fairy tale, its still pretty lame when compared to other more recent ones ala LOTR and even Harry Patter.

Well, obviously to each his own. Trek 66, to me, is a long, drawn out, cheesy, dull soap opera, with bad special effects, fake-looking cardboard sets with christmas lights, rubber rocks, and some of the hammiest acting in the history of Science Fiction TV.

No. You're right. They definitely do NOT have the same feel. Each episode of the STAR WARS saga has a unique feel and atmosphere about it, while at the same time maintaining a consistent story-telling style.

To you, that "style" can be described as "badly written" and "pandering" to children. Fair enough.

To me, that style is described "epic" modern mythology, chronicling the struggle of good versus evil on a grand scale.

Evidently, millions of folks around the world agree with me, judging by the continued, unprecidented popularity of the franchise over 30 years after its inception.

                Neither do I.

95% of the time, the folks who are "hard" on the prequels are people who were never really STAR WARS fans to begin with. And most of the time, the fans who are hard on the prequels are the older ones who grew up with the OT.

In the STAR WARS community (which this message board does not really reflect) the Prequel films are actually preferred by the younger (19 and under) fans.

It's virtual Shakespeare compared to some of the lame crap I've seen come out of Trek.

Harry Potter films are well-made, but they don't even come close to having the viceral power or universal, global appeal of STAR WARS.

And while the "Bored of the Rings" films were very-well made and achieved something that Star Wars NEVER did (winning Best Picture Oscar), they honestly nearly bored me into a comma. Those movies were basically about dudes walking through a forest for 3 hours each. Snore!!

OK, whatever. Not going to argue about it anymore. Sorry if LOTR bored you into a "comma" not sure how something can bore you into punctuation.

Hah!!! You got me there!! Blame those overly-anxious typing fingers o' mine.

T, in all seriousness, you know I'm just yankin' yer chain.

Even though I prefer STAR WARS to STAR TREK, the truth is I have derived many years of enjoyment from the Trek universe (in virtually ALL of its incarnations), and I have the utmost respect for Trek fans.
