I met Lennon in central park in January, 1980. I was off of school and was with my best friend. We were walking through the park while my parents were off doing something else. I saw Lennon and told my friend " I think he was one of the beatles". I approached John and said "Aren't you one of the beatles?" and he said, "No but I was one ". We chatted for about 10 minutes. At the very end he asked if we wanted his autograph. I said yes and got it on a napkin (which my mom has) and then asked if we wanted Yoko's autograph. My friend and I looked at each other and shook our heads no together. Heck, I didn't know who she was. Lennon laughed real hard and Yoko rolled her eyes and giggled. We shook hands and left. John was courteous, fun, and generally made 2 11 yr. olds seem important. I'll never forget it.
Cool story, especially when John laughs about you guys not wanting Yoko's autograph
My folks and extended family partied with the boys in '64. No one thought to get autographs though, they were way too cool for that :-)
There are some pics around, my parents never kept any though and it's only when they pop up in newspapers and such every now and then that I grab a scan.
