Looks great man! I only hope mine comes out half as decent. I just started today and am stripping it right down to the studs. Got to drywall the entire thing, new tub/surround, cabinets, sink, the whole shot. I'm a little overwelmed at the moment. Seeing your pics make it seem like it's all going to be worth it.so i know how you feel

Redid mine a couple of years ago. We've only got the one bathroom, so we had to stay with my parents while I was doing the work. That was extra incentive to get it done quickly.
I wanted to gut everything and add a new tub and wall tiles, but since we're probably not going to be here for more than 1-2 more years, it didn't make sense to replace a tub the tile work that were still neutral and decent.
Day 1 (Saturday) was demo day. Took out the old toilet. Removed the old vanity. Took up the old layer of linoleum tile and then demo'ed the remaining mosaic ceramic tile underneath. It was attached to 1/4" plywood that was stapled to the subfloor. That was a royal pain to remove. I was expecting that part to take about an hour, took closer to six. Cleaned up and quickly put down a new moisture-resistant backerboard subfloor and gave the adhesive 24 hours to cure. Took down the old 4' x 6' mirror that was glued to the wall and removed to outdated light fixture. Quickly painted everything.
Day 2 (Sunday) was kind of messed up because the delays on Day 1 meant I couldn't start laying tile until much later in the day. Finally got it done and cleaned and refinished the old vanity while waiting for the adhesive to set.
Day 3 (Monday-had to work that day, too) I grouted the new tile and then put in the new mirror and light fixture.
Day 4 (Tuesday-yet another work day) I put in the new toilet, put the old vanity back in place, cut new baseboards, and then caulked everything. Added a new medicine cabinet and some new towel racks. Put a new threshold under the door and trimmed the door a little bit because the clearance changed. Done.
Total cost ended up being about $100 for the new toilet, $125 for tiles, $60 for the new mirror, $80 for new fixtures, $30 for paint, and then about $100 or so for miscellaneous items like backerboard, screws, baseboards, and whatnot. Basically, it was like getting a brand-new bathroom for about $500. And, in all honesty, it probably added about another $5,000 to the value of our home. I wish I'd trolled eBay like Damien did because I probably could have shaved another $100 or so off of everything and got a new faucet to boot (still looking for a good one to match what I've got going on in there right now).
So, to anyone who's intimidated by a job like this, don't be. I didn't have to re-route any piping, but all the rest can be done by yourself even if you don't have extensive experience doing something like this. It doesn't take more than a couple of days and you can even do it after you get home from work. Sure, the hours can suck, but a new bathroom can significantly add value to your home, and that's something we could all use at this time. Plus, nothing beats demo day. There's something very cathartic about taking a sledgehammer to your floor.Comment
