I don't think it is political. . .it is economic. It only becomes political if you get into the bail out and whose policy is what.

This is a crisis caused by greed. Elastic money that never really existed, given as credit etc etc blah blah blah.

It is echoing all around the world. Everybody get a govt/public service job quick as you can. . . there will always be a govt and public service, whatever the rest of the economy is doing. No Lay offs in essential services etc.

The start of it anyway. The good news is, the US Economy is so large that we pretty much take everybody on the planet down with us when we fall. How is that good news? You have to really really WANT to see it...

The whole thing is so ridiculous to me. I'd love to see the books on these companies wanting a bail out. Because the truth is most loans go bad because people get into a bad situation and lenders won't reasonably negotiate. So instead of getting paid on a reasonable payment plan they push for more, the borrower says no because they truely can't afford it and the loan is deemed bad.

I think it's sad that people are afraid of political (AND religious) discourse. These are thing sthat NEED to be discussed. But most poeple really can't, 'cos they've got too much personally invested in the process. Instead of discourse you get the online equivalent of yelling.

The problem is (and I'm amazed none of the talking heads on tv have mentioned this) is that you can't distance one part of society from another. If the guys at the top tank, they take us with them. If WE tank, we take THEM down too. A lot of the debate stems from where you want to apply the band-aid, and it's already sliding into political dogma. The RIGHT, who are usually big-picture want it applied to the top; trickle down econimics and all that. The LEFT, who are typically small picture want it applied to the little guy; strengthen the base and whatnot. And never the two shall meet. Even though the REAL solutions are probably in between.

I'm a HUGE fan of "question authority." Tragicly, "question" typically becomes "defy." The people should push for answers. REAL answers. I think most folks pick sides early on though, then it's "My team right or wrong." And then the powers that be run with it. Here's a good article:

Me too; especially considering the huge severance packs the execs have been getting from a lot of them. So.... you're compnay's in trouble, but the head kicks all got 10% raises?

I think a bailout is wrong. Who next, GMC, Ebay, Disney? Now all of these huge corporations can run their companies into the ground and get bailed out? It would never happen to the little guy. BTW I don't think this is political but unlike James (a guy I like a lot and respect a lot) I don't think government intervention is the answer.

I don't think gov't intervention is the answer, either. Good leadership (we're supposed to get that from the gov't) is the answer... and we're not seeing a whole heckuva lot of that.

Wow James, you mean we actually agree on this? I think leadership in government on both sides of the isle are missing the boat. I could not believe the Ms. Pilosi called the other side "unpatriotic" for not voting to give over 700 billion to private companies. The political candidates also baffle me on this issue. That's it, I can't stand the lot of them, period! I'm voting for Mickey mouse for president. He would be better than the two jokers we have before us.
