Yeah, that will be worth a TON in a few years.....not. Sideshow stuff is sold AS A COLLECTIBLE. That's virtually a GIVEN that it won't be but a pile of crap plastic in the future.....

I think what Mike was getting at is what is the last LEGITIMATE collectible toy--IE something NOT MADE AS A COLLECTIBLE but as an actual TOY....

I really think Power Rangers will be worth something in the next ten years. I think kids growing up in the early 90's will want these things as they enter their late 20's and 30's......

But honestly the golden age of plastic toys has passed. 50's thru 80's were magical, but things have changed. Future nostalgia won't be centered around toys but more around technology. Video games, computers, Ipods etc. etc....

another collecting fad in the 90's was the x-men. the first series was great, but later on they made too many off-beat figures. i mean does anyone need a tusk or ahab figure?

Super Powers held their value very well. They came out over 20 years ago, though.

Ghostbusters- some of them are a bit hard to find , most loose ones are beaten up, especially the Fright Features which usually are broken. Most I find are missing the Proton Packs or the packs have broken "streams" (in fact if anyone has some packs cheap lmk). The car, headquarters are up there too in complete shape. In fact, just today at the flea market I found the Ecto-1 minus the decals and with a cracked door. Dealer wanted $35.00 for it!
The later monsters are easier to find..Slimer & Stay-Puft bring decent money. And you gotta love the Toilet Terror ghost!!

Grab these up now too, there's a resurgence coming soon in the Real Ghostbusters so prices might climb ...rumors of a revival of the film series with the Originals training a new team are circulating, and there is two new comic book series launching soon.

M.A.S.K. is another one. Prices on these should keep going up especially with the new Matt Trakker figure coming out for G.I. Joe.

Jem, Darci (late 70s early 80s), She-Ra seems to do OK.
Guardian Goddess dolls by mattel in around 79 or 80.

How about Bylythe by Kenner. That doll does very well. They even re did the line in Japan and the dolls they started with did well, not sure if they still do but the originals sell for 1000's.

It came out in 2006 for $85. I had my chance to buy two...but I put it off thinking that I could get it on ebay at a cheaper price later...well two years later...good luck getting one under $250...boy did I mess up big time...lol.

It's a great-looking figure, and I absolutely love the writing on her chest, EL RIESGO SIEMPRE VIVE...which translates to the risk lives forever. Vasquez is worth a lot more than all the other Aliens' Marines...and more than Ripley herself as well.

Here's one Vasquez that just sold on ebay:

HOT TOYS / SIDESHOW ALIENS VASQUEZ - MIB ALIEN - AVP - eBay (item 150291582218 end time Sep-10-08 12:44:53 PDT)

Yeah, these are soaring in price.

I bought Hudson, Drake, Chopper Predator and Terminator's Kyle Reese.
It was a question of buying then, or never being able to afford one again...

I think the verdict is still out on what I think of as the "pop culture" collectible.

Something you can associate with a particular era outside your typical collectibles like stamps, coins, china, furniture, etc.

I remember watching a show I think it was called "This Old Attic" and the host hit the nail on the head. He was a big time pop culture collector and had warehouses full of stuff.

He said this type is on a curve but he used a person's age to help explain it. Basically, the premise is when you get to your 30's, you start collecting things that bring back nastalgic memories...prices are starting to go up as 30 somethings have more disposable income to spend on this type of stuff. By your 40's, things are getting out of control and prices are at their peak as 40 somethings have even more disposable income and are competing for limited product. By your 50's prices are basically leveled off and then in your 60's, prices start to decline as people start to sell of ftheir collections but there aren't new collectors buying up the supply because it doesn't create a nostalgic memory for them. Case in point: He predicted items like Cowboys and Indians, Howdy Doody, and things that were popular in the 1950's were going to fall in value because how many of us 30 or 40 somethings are chasing Howdy Doody collectibles? He said, if you wanted to speculate, start buying the popular and hard to find collectibles from the 1980's now, while they are cheap...this was about 10 years ago and he did mention Transformers and MOTU. I remember I bought a mint metal with tag MOTU lunchbox for about $15...nobody wanted them. I have not checked prices but even with lunchboxes being a bit out, I'd be willing to bet I could sell it for more than $15.

The one pop culture type item I see holding value are comic books. Maybe because of the character continuity from one generation to a next, Golden Age comic books have never really fallen...at least the key characters and issues.
"The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
