What was the LAST collectible line that held it's value ?

    A thought,
It seems nothing new ever goes up in value and becomes a true collectible.
I consider a true collectible to be a toy that increased in value as the years went by and still hung onto its value years and years later.... Like a Mego, GI Joe and even classic He Mans.

Some examples of false collectibles imo.

Star Trek -- any Playmates action figures
Star Wars -- 95's and up
and a whole bunch more including Pee Wee figures etc.

So what was the last true collectible line ?

I don't count anything new because it didn't pay its dues yet.

    What do you think ?

Probably the later day Transformers from Generation 1 are some of the last toys that continue to go up in value. I know at one point some of the tail-end stuff was really hard to find.

The only thing I can really think to add is the G1 Transformers and Super Powers.

I don't really follow the after market values but I'm guessing the growth of the adult collector market and speculators have played a big role in this. There are just so many adults buying up and hording mountains of MOC figures. I remember when the 95 SW figures were hot people were buying Leias by the dozens. Now they probably can't give them away.

In the 60, 70s and 80s. Kids bought toys. Played with them, loved them and generally tossed the packages. Now you have loads of adults buying cases and cases of figures or striping the pegs bare of "hot" figures grading them and sealing them in lucite and hoping to hit it rich. I guess you could say there's too much scalping and not enough just enjoying the toys and playing with them.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Train stuff that is new is very collectible, especially the BRIO lines from the 1990s when they did Bob the Builder or Babar or Richard Scarry characters.
You can pay up to $50 or so for a boxed Rudolf von Flugel with his airplane.

You'd be shocked at how much some Pee-wee stuff goes for. I know I was when I was going to start trying to beef up my collection about a year or two ago... at that time, an unused Pee-wee blanket mint in the original package went for over $500.

I'd say possibly some early DC Direct stuff, though I haven't looked at prices in ages.

It's the stuff that isn't marketed as being collectible that will go up, but it's a fool's errand to "invest" in any collectible these days and expect a return.

I Agree with Some of the Earlier DC Direct Stuff.... However it seems as if these days,.. with new renditions of the characters that did fetch a bit ,.. most of their Characters have been on a Decline as far as the prices they used to comand.

Alot of the Recent McFarlane NFL Figures seem to have some serious Price Points & Collectability . They Would Probably get my Vote for Holding thier Value & Continue to Rise in Prices,.. as far as Today Goes.

From the 80's ,.. Transformers Gen 1, 3&3/4 inch G.I.JOE's MOC or MIB 87 & Earlier , Super Powers & ThunderCATS . All these Lines have some serious Pull in Prices when it comes to items still in package.

Some Lines that seemed as if they were going to Hold in Value,..

The Playmates Simpsons. You can Bairly give these Away on Ebay for the price you paid for the figure these Days... Inwhich Blows,.. Because I have most everything from Series 13 to Series 1.

& The Origional Batman The Animated Series of Toys. These used to go for quite a Bit about 7 yrs ago,.. Or some of them. However It Seems as if with Every New Batman Toy that hits the Shelf,.. no one Seems to care Anymore.

Some of the Early Marvel Legends Variants (chase) figures seem to Have Some Pull..., But the Later Chase figures are pretty Much Nothing. The Novelty of the Chase Figure Wore out with thier flooding of the Idea.

            Power Rangers.
Laugh it up, if your that guy, But any MegaZord Ninja Storm to the Origional Goes for Big Bucks. I'm More so talking About the Big Combiner Ones. That go for about 40 apiece Retail.

I also think most Transformers in General Hold thier Value & Continue to Be an Investment. Kid's just love them. The Idea of having a toy that Changes into something else,.. was probably one of the Greatest Inventions in the Toy World. Most Transformers that haven't been on the Shelf for just a Few yrs,.. are already worth More than they were sold for.

& The Last Waves of the MOTU 4 HorseMen Stacticon Figures. Unless you got these at retail,.. I don't think there was that Many of the Made,.. For something that Origionally cost 14.99 + Tax,.. & has only been out there for shorter than a few yr... To Comand anywhere's from 50 to 100 Bucks Per Piece , I think is pretty Impressive to say the Least. I guess we will see where thier Future is Held.

Agreed on Transformers. My kids are addicted to them. I've shelled out more cash on Optimus Prime than any other character of any toyline excluding my stuff. I was 15 when TF first came about and it's still around because of the play value and TV tie in.
My oldest took really good care of all his Transformers but my youngest has a thing about pulling things apart and has breoken or lost some pieces but for the most part, the toys have held up well and many of them look brand new.

T cats has done alright. It went way up for a short time and then came back to normal. It's had a recent price increase especially for the packaged stuff. Second run stuff which is the movie chracters mostly has the best value. The european releases are always expensive too. G1 Transformers are too. I would say Beanie Babies were the biggest and quickest rise and demise i've ever seen. If you look at the prices these things went to in a fairly short window of time and where they are now is incredible. We're talking a popularity window of like 2 years they were on the top and now ones that were 4 figure cost are not worth $50 even to the few die hard collectors that still exist. I make it a habit to not get tied up with anything new that skyrockets in value instantly. I only collect for my own personal enjoyment and not for the value but I still don't want to pay top dollar for something I'll be able to get later on clearance. I've never not been able to find even the rare pieces I wanted of a new released line for the shelf price after the hype wore off.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I Remember that Craz ... Now After being reminded.
WOW,... I still have some of that Crap still Lingering Around me house too.
I remember My GirlFriend or My Mom having me wait in these lines for them,.. so they can get an Extra One... or New one,.. Because they would only let you get one of a Wave Because the Lines were so damn long.
I also had the pleasure ( ) of going to a few of the Toy Shows that were Held for Beanie Babies. Unbelievable. It was really only the Ty Beanies that anyone was after I think... I can respect some of the Halloween Ones.. I think they are kinda neat.

Most 80's toys have more then done well for themselves

Now the 90's are a different story, except for maybe the Hasbro WWF line(Carded they do pretty good) and some Ninja turtles, most average $12-$25 moc

Got to disagree with the Hasbro WWF stuff. The early stuff yes but not the later stuff like the ones from the yellow card series and on. They really took a hit when all of the foreign stuff hit KBs. Unless they've since recovered from it.

                            Sideshow's Aliens' Vasquez:

Sideshow Collectibles, Inc. - Alien / Vasquez 12-inch Fully Poseable Model Kit

It came out in 2006 for $85. I had my chance to buy two...but I put it off thinking that I could get it on ebay at a cheaper price later...well two years later...good luck getting one under $250...boy did I mess up big time...lol.

It's a great-looking figure, and I absolutely love the writing on her chest, EL RIESGO SIEMPRE VIVE...which translates to the risk lives forever. Vasquez is worth a lot more than all the other Aliens' Marines...and more than Ripley herself as well.

Here's one Vasquez that just sold on ebay:

HOT TOYS / SIDESHOW ALIENS VASQUEZ - MIB ALIEN - AVP - eBay (item 150291582218 end time Sep-10-08 12:44:53 PDT)
