ATARI 2600 talk

Intellivision here too. I would play Atari when we visited a family friend. I thought the Atari 2600 was awesome! I only wish I had more time to play it.

OH man I love 2600 I have 3 working systems ... original with fake woodgrain... same style as the original but woodgrain replaces with black... then the remodeled one that came out in or around 1987ish ...

I'm up to 75 games ... but those darn paddle controlls suck and I can't play about 5 of them.

I have an Intellivision II that I got from my older brother. He bought it for his kids at a yard sale (it also has an Atari cartridge jack). When they outgrew it, I asked for it. Since my eye/hand coordination SUCKS, playing that one is harder for me, b/c I have to look away from the screen to the keypad. But Pitfall is actually easier on it than Atari. It's in a box out in my garage. I have about 40 games for that one.

My parents would never buy me a 2600. So I was at the mercy of my friends to play at their house.

/we got the 2600 for Christmas when I was about 6 or 7.It was the big family gift that year. It came with paddles, Winter Olympics cartridge, and Combat. My mom read somewhere that video games would burn a pattern into your TV, so she convinced my dad to not let us play it on the big color TV So we had to play it on the black and white TV in my sister's room. About the only time my very indulging mother ever cramped my style. My dad and I really liked playing combat. I loved the invisible tanks! Another favorite was Spider-Man by Activision. Remember when the bomb went off and the whole TV would go white? I'm pretty sure if I had seen it on a color TV I would have had a seizure. I remember wanting to like E.T., but was it me, or was that game just horribly designed? (sorry Hardy Girl!). I really liked Asteroids too.

I got an NES in 88 or so, and never looked back at the old Atari. I had pretty much put it away by then anyway. My mom did cave in and let me hook the NES up to the color TV by then. I used to blow in both 2600 and NES cartridges, and it did indeed work every time!

You are not alone. The ET cart for the 2600 may be one of their worst and most over hyped games EVER. Many accuse that game of causing Atari's demise and the video game slump of the early 80's. You can read about it here:

Yar's Revenge
Pitfall
Superman (probably because I only got to play it for a few minutes at a friends house once).
Jungle Hunt

I still have two systems, and pull them out every few months.

Same here. I picked up a copy back in the day for 99 cents. Heck,it wasn't worth it at that price. Same with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I first got an Atari 2600 sometime around 1981, it came with Combat. My parents also bought Pac-Man that day too, so I had two cartridges to play over and over. My dad got pretty addicted to it, much moreso than I did actually though I did love playing it. He and I must've destroyed at least a half-dozen or more joysticks out of anger! Several years later I bought an Atari 2600 Jr. (my original had long since died) and I still have it, and I play it fairly often. I also bought some of those Atari 10-in-1 joysticks that came out in recent years, I just got done playing a great game of Yars Revenge!

My favorite games are/were:

Yars Revenge
Demon Attack
Adventure
Kaboom! (I can play that game for hours and just wreck my eyes, seriously they take a couple of hours to get back to normal again after that...)

I also really enjoy Breakout/Super Breakout, Video Olympics, Othello, Pitfall, and Haunted House.

If you go to Atari2600 dot com, you can buy all sorts of old games, accesories, and refurbished systems. I want to eventually get one that's been converted for S-Video.
