    ATARI 2600 talk

I just had some Atari 2600 flashbacks ......

When you put a cartridge in and it doesn't work--- you take the cartridge out and blow into it --- then put it back --- for some reason it works every time after a good blow

I never cared for the paddles ......
They didn't have any resistance and moved too easy.

Anyone ever get the keypad ?
    I never even wanted it.

My top 5 fav Atari 2600 games (back in the day)
    1. Adventure
    2. Dodge 'em
    3. Pit Fall
    4. Haunted House
    5. Combat ......

I payed $130.00 for just the console and free combat back in the day.
    Wow.

    Any other 2600 memories ?

I still have my Atari 2600! It's in my entertainment unit now! I have 180 games for it. I used to have the faux wood version, but in '89, I got the sleeker black and silver version. A few of the games I got new back in the day, but most of my collection has come from the flea market. I loved how back then, different companies would make different games for the same system. I love Activision and Imagic games. I think my fave is Plague Attack, and E.T. When I was in hi-school, and living w/ my dad, money was tight, and there were 5 kids (me, my dad's girlfriend's kids, and my half-brother and sister). One Christmas, all us kids decided that we only wanted one gift to share amongst all of us. We found in the PennySaver circular an Atari unit w/ 6 games for $150. My dad agreed. We used to keep 2 TVs in the living room. One to watch, and one to play Atari on. We started a lending library of games w/ the other kids in the neighborhood. My dad even started this competition w/ his GF's kids that the loser of Pong had to make the winner cake! I WON!

OK, I've blabbed enough! Good topic!

I Loved playing it at my friend's house in middle school. I got my own off the Big Lots shelves around 1989. I started amassing cartridges from friends who didn't have units anymore. I love the games -mostly activision stuff. KaBoom is the best. I have the standar paddles but I have a Wico redball joystick in addition to reg sticks. The last time It saw much use was 2.5 years ago for New Years eve I had an Atari marathon party. I was surprised how many peole wanted to play Atari on New Years instead of the typical scene. A year ago I boxed it up with about 100 games but found out it would be over $30 to ship if sold so the box collects dust now. Maybe I'll pull it out and give it one last hurrah before putting it on Craig'slist.

OMG! My siblings and I used to sit for hours playing Pitfall looking for the end. Boy I was ****ed when I later found out there is no end. OMG! It was like listening to Michael Jackson's thriller being played over and over. I still hate my sister for that one.

Atari 2600 with the wood bit at the front ours came with Space Invaders

            My best games were:

            Pit Fall 1 and 2
            River Raid
S/W The Empire Strikes Back (really hard bringing down an AT-AT)
            Dig Dug
            Haunted House

Did you ever make Pete in PIT FALL go the other way instead of to the rigt,it was mad trying to jump on the crocks heads that way.

I used to have this weird double sided cartridge.
Not sure what company made it.
It was literally like 2 cartridges glued together back-to-back to make one giant cartridge.
I think the games were called Jungle Hunt and Pike's Peak.
                Kind of weird.

I had the version of the Atari 2600 Coleco put out. It had the joystick and paddle on one controller. Had no idea about the video game crash back in the day. Just happy to find so many games so cheap. By the way,I still do the blowing in the cartridge thing with my N64 games.

Those were XONOX Double Enders. Those were a big hit in our neigborhood. I have one w/ Pike's Peak and I believe Haunted Mansion were you'd get decapitated trying to get thru! Thank goodness the graphics were nothing!

                      Yea !!!
Haunted Mansion was the one with Pike's Peak.
That was a pretty good game... Better than Atari's Haunted House.

I used to love Breakout but the paddles would break after a while. Then with no paddles you couldn't play breakout anymore. My brother has the unit we grew up with. He never takes it out to play tho. Maybe I'll buy an old, used Atari off eBya and play some of those old games again.

I loved it. I had (have it somewhere) Demon Attack, I rolled it over once with 1,000,000 points.

The ATari 2600 was almost as influential on my childhood as Mego. In fact, when I became "too old" for dolls, it was the 2600 that became the center of my world. Well, that and games at the local arcade. Even after I moved on to my next influencing infatuation- girls, i would still break ou tthe Atari now and again.

Unfortunately the only Atari play I ever got was at my cousin's house because we had Intellivision...crap
