I just turned 46 (in june) and feel younger than I have in many years. It's as much a state of mind as actual years. A couple of years ago I was pretty beaten down, out of shape, etc. I'm married now to a great woman, I'm running (via an elipticle) about 12 miles a week and it has made a world of differnce. I eat better and not as much, I think that has helped too.
Lastly, and this is very personal, my relationship with Jesus Christ has made a big difference in my attitude.
Yeah, I'm not a spring chicken anymore but things could be much worse!

What does 40 ish mean? Time to start picking out nice cemetery plots.Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

I'm 36 and a half.....a few years back I had a 36inch waist now I'm down to 28.
I feel much better, better than I did when I was 30.
I cycle at least twice a day...usually only to and from work.
At home we have all changed our diet to a more oriental diet...more veg and less meet and smaller portions.
And we find that eating with chopsticks makes it more difficult to shovel large amounts of food into our mouths.
I no longer eat any dairy or drink alcohol....well maybe one beer a month when I meet up with Roger.
I have found that since losing the spare tyre belly I'm not as out of breath as I was.
Also my sex life is better....
I think that age is just a number for other people to judge you by."I've just bought a house. It's got a Buck Rogers Toilet. One yank, all gone!"Comment

I'm 42 (hitch hikers fans...does that mean i'm at the age where I understand life, the universe and everything?), overwieght, smoke and drink occasionally......but i'm, fine with that...i've reached an age where I don't have to impress anyone and am happy with who I am and how I am......I still have hair down to my small of my back and no receeding (it is greying though) and can still keep up with the 25-30 year olds who are mates......and Barry of course...what He didn't tell you was he cycles his bike but I carry him and it to where he wants to go.....he hasn't guessed yet...he wonders why he's never tired out...lol
I thought you still ate cheese Barry?ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.

I turned 40 three weeks ago. When I was 25-30, I use to rollerblade alot (trick ride & workout). I haven't done it in years, but feel I could still do it.
A couple weeks ago, (my belated 40th B-Day party) we were watching the men's olympic gymnastics. A guy pressed a handstand from the seated position. My sister's boyfriend (32 or so), tried to just press himself off the floor with his legs straight out and arms at his side(preacher's seat I think its called). He is pretty physically fit (5'-10", 170lbs) and could not do it. I laugh at him and get down and press one out (only for brief second, but got up). It hurt like hell, but I did it, and he couldn't stand it.
I am far from in shape (unless round is a shape). I am a big guy, 6' 250lbs, carry it well except around my gut (I love to eat).
I guess I am just saying, age is a state of mind!!!!Last edited by theantiquetiger; Aug 28, '08, 8:45 PM.sigpicComment

I turned 44 this year and I can give you the scoop on what you need to do to prepare yourself for the "big 40" stage. FIRST - It's just a number. If your young at heart then your way ahead of the game mentally. As the Joker would say, "Why so serious?" SECOND - You MUST start paying attention to your health which translates into a focus on physical activity. Too many people slow down in their late 30's and 40's. When you were a kid you could get away with laying around and eating Big Macs for a spell without your body paying the price, because you did enough running to make up the difference - not now. In your 40's you need to hit a gym and/or stay active (walking, running) every week and lay off the fast food (a death wish, to be sure).
If you don't, then let me introduce you to your next acquaintance - your genetic flaws. If your parents started having health related issues when they were middle age (blood pressure, etc.), chances are you will follow that path. Chances are also good they might have developed those problems from life style changes (not always, but many times that is true). Review that aspect of your family and see if there were any problems including cancer (such as colon). If that is present you need to start getting it checked.
I could write a book on the matter but I think you get my point. You just have to start paying attention to your body. Get plenty of exercise, start giving yourself more rest and you will feel just as good as you did in your 20's - I do! If you do that and start maintaining regular checkups with your doctor, your 40's will be just as good as any other decade prior. Best of luck!
Definitely good info to "LIVE" by.Thank you for sharing your knowledge wise one.

On the upside to that though it would mean that you could possibly live longer. That way you could still enjoy all of the "good stuff" longer so long as it is done so in moderation that is. That would be great news for that ape city that you are wanting to govern some day.
Not to mention the fact that I for one would miss you and your awesome custom work.
I am also not implying that you are old by any means.

I am currently 37 years young and shortly going on being 38 years young. I feel that I am getting into my prime. I am still very young at heart. I have been blessed with very good genes and I am not talking about my Tommy Hilfiger's that I wear.I still have all of my hair with no signs of loss or greying. (so far knock on wood) No Hans Wieman transplant yet so that is always a good thing.
I have been described as being smart (when I want to be) very quick witted (so that to me is a good thing still) I have also been told by several strangers along with my friends that I look very good for my age. I take that in a good way and as a compliment. Most people actually guess me as being a bit older than what I am not because of my looks, but because I am more of a mature thinking person. For the most part I always have been more mature thinking as I have been around mostly adults growing up as a child. Although one could not tell that I would be that mature from most of my posts here at The Museum some times.
I like to joke, (hence a lot of my smiley icons and posts here at The Museum) I truly enjoy living life to the fullest and I like to just have fun. I believe that life is indeed too short no to. I of course collect lots of different toys like the most of us here. Now mainly Mego's as they are my real favorite. I am much more health conscious. I eat more healthy. I eat less sugar (which is not always fun thing to leave out), less red meat (even though I love steaks and I am a steak and potato man) I do not do the fried stuff hardly at all. I am totally a grill or baked type of eater unless of course it is a nice big fat juicy steak. I no longer drink unless you would consider having a glass of nice wine with a very nice meal every so often. I definitely do not do not smoke or do drugs nor do I hold it against anyone that does. To each their own.
Now why all of a sudden do I feel as if I am filling out some application for one of those matchmaker sites?Does anyone here want to date me now? As far as the guys go I sincerely hope not anyway. (no offense to anyone) Sorry ladies I know a lot of you probably had your hopes up here. NOT!!!
But I do have a gf for which I am very happy with in a lot of ways. She makes me very happy and very proud and best of all some how she has been able to tolerate my Mego and other toy collecting to a fault.
Maybe it is because I treat her so darn good? If our relationship continues to prosper like as it has I may just end up having to marry her some day. Only with a prenup involved though. We currently have no kids and I for one hope not to. (again no offense to those that do) I think that kids are great so long as the little crumb snatchers are someone elses issues and not mine.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
