I just turned 40 three months ago.
Everyone from my mother to my wife is on me to get some overdue bloodwork, think about the dreaded prostate exam, and one of those colon scans....
I do feel better than I have in 10-15 years. My kids are getting older (my youngest is now 8) so I really enjoy volunteering to coach their sports team or just spending quality time with them (not that I didn't before but it seems more fun now that they are a bit older and have really shaped their own identities).
The biggest things for me were losing about 30 lbs...not obese and just slightly overweight but now I am in prime shape. I always hated typical excercising....running, treadmills, etc. When I started coaching soccer, I started playing again, first with the team and then in an adult league. I am a bit slower but my skills are coming back. Every year, I have challenged anyone on every team that I have coached that I will give anyone $20 cash who can out juggle me with a soccer ball (even though I am just average) as an incentive to get the kids to practice. So far, I have not paid out a dime. As I have watched the kids get better and up near what I can do, I go out and practice so they can't beat me. It's fun and keeps me in shape.
The other major thing I have done, you can call it a mid-life crisis if you want but I have been much better about money in my opinion. I have always been extremely frugal and wanted to save, save, save. I was always afraid of losing jobs (it has already happened) or something happening to me that would prevent me from earning a living. Since I have become older, I have realized that I can't keep being so cheap and forgoing everything now for a future that may or may not come. So I have really learned to save some money, give some money to charity, and spend some money and enjoy the ride."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

I'm going to be 42 in three months. And all I can only tell you that it's great to be that because it's my only choice. Stay active is good advice. I try to lift weights at least 3 days a week although that gets to be a challenge anymore. But I still can do damn near 1000 situps and about 80 pushups in one sitting. That just stems from years ago when I used to powerlift. I just can't shed the weight I put on nearly 15 years ago. But I think it's the diet. Graying hair, thinning hair, wrinkles, spare tire, high blood pressure, acid reflux. Damn. Well, I still have my 35 year old Megos! So what can I say?Comment

I'll be 40 March 1.
I'm a bit scared but alot is going on right now as well. Most notably, I'm buying my first house. I'm a litle later than I would've liked getting here but it feels good. I can't wait for my boys to have their OWN house. No neighbours attached. lol.
I'm quitting smoking. I play hockey so my health is so so. I will be making a better go it. I have 2 food weaknessess that I don't think I'd want to live without. Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Now, I've been told my my doc all the benefits od eating PB so I think I'm ok there but the chocolate. .... Man. I need me some chocolate.
Don't know if I've had or am having or will have a midlife crisis. I sometimes feel like it. Hard to say for sure. I know I'm an emotional basketcase over buying my house though. There is no doubt in mind I will ball ike a baby when the deal is done and we're moved in. It's a huge thing for me. My biggest accomplishment. Maybe this house thing is my midlife crisis.Comment
