Golden Age Hawkman has been dead...

It turns out in the new Hawkman books that the current Hawkman turns out to be the alien Hawkman all this time. His memories of his past being the Golden Age Hawkman were false apparently. He somehow picked up the Golden Age Hawkman's memories when they were molded together but it turns out that the Golden Age Hawkman has been dead for quite some time now.

    What a bunch of crap!

Guess I will have to make a custom Mego with a cloth mask and put my Hawkman figure on the bottom shelf now. LOL

(but maybe they are doing this since they brought this new Earth 2 back since we did see A Golden Age Hawkman in the ranks. Get ready to say goodbye to Alan Scott and Jay Garrick on this Earth folks!)

So....is it classic Silver Age Katar Hol, or Hawkworld Katar Hol, or something all together different?

      From: http://megomuseum.com/community/showthread.php?t=15231 My "nutshell" synopsis

Pretty much Hawkman is told by some mysterious alien dude that everything he knew about his origin was a fabrication (as far as the Egyptian portion goes...Prince Khufu, Chay-era and Hath-Set, reincarnation, etc.). Doesn't reveal who or why but it has something to do with one of the many Crisis of recent years. And it was deliberately done. By the end of the book he's referred to as Katar Hol (not Carter Hall)...so apparently they're trying to jumpstart the Thanagarian heritage angle again and dropping everything Geoff Johns and others wrapped up nicely with a bow a few years ago.
So I think by the look o' things it's Silver Age Katar Hol...I betcha Hawkworld gets retconned outta there if it hasn't been already.

      What a freakin' mess.

This is what ****s characters up. When you have multiple writers taking on the character and changing what each one does so they can alter their versions of the hero. It is getting really old and it is literally killing the characters and making them radioactive.

So far. Hawkworld never happened. So I am assume this alien version of Hawkman is what you refer to as the silver age version.
Don't worry Chris! There will be an Earth popping up that reveals where the Hawkworld universe went to. I will almost bet on that.

The recent Geoff Johns/James Robinson "fix" on Hawkman, although not perfect, was a very admirable effort and I enjoyed the "Times Past" reincarnations of Hawkman (like the gunslinging Nighthawk and the Silent Knight). It was as good as it could get with what they were given to work with.

Now Starlin comes along (isn't this guy and his cosmic epics like about 30 years past his prime?). And DC (or more specifically Dan DiDouchio) asks him to "fix" the "fix" that was done on Hawkman no less than 6 years ago. No wonder the character is "radioactive" once again as Cat said. That's the term they used when Grant Morrison wanted to use Hawkman in JLA years ago...albeit his solution was to graft the name on the angel Zuriel.

So after Johns and Robinson "decontaminated" the character initially and Johns then kept it up a few years after that, we're now back at suqare one again..."Who the f' is Hawkman?" Maybe if they hadn't given his title to Hawkgirl during "One Year Later" they wouldn't feel compelled to start all over again.

After letting Johns and Robinson fix Hawkman and have a good run in his comic they go and eff it up again. Wow, way to go DC and DiDio.

What is really sad Toyroom. Hawkman is one of my favorite characters. Everytime a so called writer takes my hero they change him. It sucks none of the writers can agree on this character and won't quit changing him everytime they have their run with Hawkman.

You wait. Hawkman is going to have a "stink" all over him again and no one will want to touch him

So maybe they are making him Kator Hol again because Carter Hall is going to be the Hawkman we see on this new incarnation of Earth 2. Might make sense if that is why they are doing it.

I have not been a big fan of DC's attempt to put Wolverine into their universe by calling him Hawkman.

I am going to grab this book and see where it transpires to. Maybe DC has a hidden plan that might make it come out even keel in the end. Who knows?

You know that's a good point...Besides Hawkman's occassional head-butting with Green Arrow in the JLA, I really don't remember him being a dick. Especially during his Gardner Fox/Joe Kubert/Murphy Anderson Silver Age days. But since the original Crisis on Infinite Earths, DC has put him in the aggressor mode.

I remember before the "Hawkworld" revamp, when they had him in a couple of issues of "Justice League" during the Maguire/Giffen/DeMatteis era...his character was very irritated with the other team members. They started to give Katar this air about him where he thought he was some big-shot.

Then when "Hawkworld" hit he often seemed on the outside looking in, shut out of the mainstream super-hero community and no longer associated with the JLA. Eventually they made him a member but the damage was already done. Like the "Wonder Woman" revamp by Perez, DC choose to do it ("Hawkworld") in the present, instead of retconning it (which would have made perfect sense!). As a result, these characters suffered quite a bit..being out of touch with their peers.

And they're doing the same thing AGAIN with Aquaman too! A new "mysterious" Aquaman has shown up in the pages of "Final Crapshoot" #3.

I think DC just wanted to reboot Aquaman and they couldn't get the "Ahab the pirate/Gregg Allman looking dork with the hook hand stink" off the character and so they just killed him off and started him over with a "new character" in his place.

Some people make fun of that outfit but who cares.
Aquaman in that outfit is most recognized all around the world because of that Super friends silver age looking orange and green outfit.

                            Just leave it alone!

You can't change Superman's outfit without screwing up the character and they might as well realize that with Aquaman.

Aquaman is Aquaman in that orange and green outfit.

As a kid I use to have an Aquaman orange shirt (came from the underroo's thing) and a pair of green sweat pants. I was all in my glory because I was the only kid on the block with blond hair. I was AQUAMAN!!

                            That look is Aquaman!!

Gotta agree Johns and Robinsons' revamp was best. I wanted the classic, SA Hawkman back for years, esp. since there was no reason for him to be gone in the first place. Only the whim of editor Mike Gold (or was it Alan Gold, one of those guys) decided that Hawkworld was happening NOW not in the past as Tim Truman intended. Heck he was originally going to collaborate with Gardner Fox (creator of BOTH Hawkmen) on it, but Fox passed away before they got to really get started.

But Johns solution worked, so why muck with it now.

Just like Infinite Crisis/52 gave us a new Multiverse that was kinda like the old one, but not quite, it seems DC wants to go back to the era right before the Crisis, but not quite. Just have it both ways: Say Earth 1 and Earth 2 exist, and so does New Earth. Do books on both Earths. Let the fans decide which the want, or if they want both, leave them the heck alone already!

Agreed on Aquaman. It's time to have the REAL Arthur Curry, son of a lighthouse keeper and an Atlantean mother back. Not "Orin the One-Handed Jerkweed".
