The DVD release of the "Tales of the Black Freighter" is probably the concession they had to make by not having in the main film...but at least it will still be out there in some form. Better than nothing at all.

^^ I don't really see that as the reasoning behind it. It just couldn't fit into a 2 hour movie, and the director is trying to stay faithful to the comic so it is coming out in a format that sets it apart from the movie. It will be integrated into the director's cut dvd along with the webcomics showing a lot of the flasback stuff that doesn't fit the format of a movie, either.

Allegedly, we're also getting "Under The Hood" as a separate DVD around the same time as the film's release. Then, about four months after Watchmen, we'll get the various versions of the movie DVD, one of which, I'm sure, will have all three in one big package.

The film's currently three hours long, before editing - I'm hoping for a 2 /1/2 hour flick.

And doesn't Carla Gugino look great as Silk Spectre I? Love that hairdo!

No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

Nah, I don't see it as an attempt to cash-in on the "pirate craze" (IS there a pirate craze?). It's more of an attempt to be as faithful as possible to the comic while at the same time not making the movie 5 hours long. The Black Freighter portions of the original series (as well as the "Under the Hood" back pages) could be removed from the original book and it probably wouldn't miss a beat. Sure it adds to it, but it's not totally necessary. More of a cool fringe benefit and I think that's what they're trying to do with these mini-DVD releases (which of course WILL generate $$$ anyway )

I just picked up Watchmen in Trade Paperback form. I have never read Watchmen and don't know too much about the story, only the cultural impact and influence it has had over the years. I have a few days off, so I am going to tear into it.

Just finished Watchmen and I can see this being a very good movie. I can see it translating to film with very few problems and the publicity shots I have seen look like they have "the look" captured.

Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach seems like inspired casting to me.
