I know the character best from reprints of the Steve Ditko stories from the '60s and I enjoyed it a great deal. I'm not a fan of 3D but I took a chance and saw it that way. I think the movie benefits from 3D because it fits in with the story rather than just being a gimmick. Cumberbach is great in the role.

As far as Hemsworth's overall performance, my take is that Hemsworth's Thor is similar to Ferrigno/Bixby's Thor.

As in: "A kind of happy-go-lucky warrior"... the opposite of Wonder Woman or Aquaman.

Just an observation from an "averagely" knowledgeable comicbook nerd here.

          I hope so.

Spider-Man's big animated Secret Wars story arc was a big hit with a reverberating impact.

Maybe the Planet Hulk film will become the groundwork for the Secret Wars scenario.

With Lex's "attitude" at the close of BvS, I felt it looked SPECIFICALLY like a "Super Powers" direction than your run of the mill "Darkseid controlling Superman" plot... I feel it may be a mix of both.

You may be right. Word last week was Steppenwolf's ID4/SyFy Alien look from the deleted BvS material has been scrapped. The design trend for JL keeps moving towards an accurate-updated appearance, so we should be seeing a Kirbyesque Fourth World. Add-in the "Team Assemble" aspect of the trailer and how Super Powers is right at that beloved nostalgia watermark of thirty years...wouldn't be surprising to see JL2 sub-title as SP especially is A4 is Secret Wars.

This was a good origin movie. I think Strange will work even better once he's integrated with the MCU. What a difficult character to adapt to the screen! With a "Magician Superhero", they run the risk of making it too much boring cosmic gobbledygook. But Marvel is smarter than that, and they well-balanced the mysticism with the Marvel humor. (Can't believe some people are complaining this was too humorous!)

Didn't enjoy it as much as the Cap films or the Avengers films, but this was better than Thor's solo films, and on par with some of Iron Man's solos.

I didn't cringe at the cutesy and humorous moments, that's to be expected in a mainstream adaptation. IMO those aspects were not obnoxious or at the expense of the character. Which we sometimes see , as in The Shadow film.

I do tend to think of Strange as a serious, driven, even dour character, but I think those aspects can be accentuated in a sequell as his mission continues.

I thought of him that same way... So I never really got into his comic stories. I rather like the MCU version of him. Although it's a bit of a shame Vincent Price never got to play the character.

I like both versions. A somber Strange is fine by me, we have Spidey & the Thing for more glib adventuring. It's odd, though--as huge fan as I am of Price, I never envisioned him as Dr. Strange. Probably because all I can think of is The Raven film and that character seems jokey and cowardly to me. As a kid, I pictured Strange like Nicholas Blair, on Dark Shadows. That character made an impression on me.

What say you on the TV movie version?

Saw it today, gets a solid B for story and characters, A+ for visuals. Averaged together let's say A-

The TV version was the one thing from Marvel on TV my parents wouldn't let me watch ( I suffered from night terrors for a short time as a kid around the time this came out and they thought this would be too scary so said no), so this movie took on that mythic quality of the one that got away as things weren't available if you missed them on tv during those days.

I didn't get to see it until I was home for Christmas break my freshman year at university when WOR channel 9 out of New York City played it during the wee hours of the morning and I caught that it was going to be on in the TV Guide and set the VCR to tape it. I still have it on that VCR tape and have watched it several times since then (it was up on YouTube for a time but got taken around when the new Marvel Studios theatrical release was announced).

It is good cheesy fun. Lots of changes from the comics to be certain, as all the CBS TV Marvel stuff did, but it was fun and watchable in a 70s occult tv movie kind of way.

Anyone who is complaining about the humor in this just needs to go watch a Zack Snyder film. You'll reevaluate afterwards.
