Not sure about the center pose where he's doing the vogue, but is it supposed to be the black costume with red instead of white? If so, I'm open to it, but need to see it in print.
Spiderman to me will always be the red and blue costume, never liked the shadow black version or this new version.
Yet another attempt at screwing with tradition, although I didn't mind the Superman Cavill costume so much or
the 90's black Batman look, but hated the recent Batman costume in BvsS
It says 1983 on the side of the bible shot and the question posed is to Denny O'Neil, so I'm guessing this is the first design of the Secret Wars black costume and not anything new?
I thought for some reason that Marvel went with the costume change to avert a possible rights lawsuit or because Mattel requested it, but the only behind the scenes stories I found were that a fan came up with it and Jim Shooter liked the idea and paid him for it.
I always liked the black and white suit. The Secret Wars figure was one of my favorites.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

Secret Wars came from Mattel, but Shooter wanted to use it as a way to totally reset the entire Marvel U. He got enough talent resistance that he settled for the redesigns/reboots of the core characters and then developed the New Universe.
Black Spidey came from a fan and its incorporation into Secret Wars was a last minute addition. Before that They considered it being a new character and IIRC, something Reed and Peter developed off his web formula.
I can see how it would look like a rights issue, but Shooter's main concern was correcting how the 70's crew made the Marvel U a Rube Goldberg.

Yeah, that's the story I ended up finding as well. I think I have a couple of stories confused. Was there something about changing Superboy because of possible litigation? I should just google it as well, I guess.
Superboy, yeah. There's been a lot of different legal disputes. Siegel and his estate were/are always filing over royalties and ownership. That's mainly why CW Smallville was what it was; to avoid Siegel litigation. The Siegel's actually owned Superboy back in '04.
The latest Superman reboot Man of Steel is hitting the big screen this summer. But today’s ruling by the U.S. District Court in the studio’s favor means Warner Bros now has full license to make a Superboy movie. Thursday’s order by Judge Otis Wright III affirmed a contested 2001 agreement between the estate of Superman […]
You might be recalling the warfare over Salkind's Superboy TV show. That was '88.
