My other half wants to see it this weekend, so I'll be going. I have a feeling that I won't be able to get past the CGI...I've seen the trailers on the big screen and it just doesn't look good to me. It's not Warcraft bad, but its not that far removed from it. That, and Eric Northman...he just doesn't come across to me as Tarzan material. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Can't help but wonder if Cheetah's name will be changed to Sookie?

Just got back from a 7:45 IMAX/3D showing. Absolutely great film. I am STUNNED critics had a hard time with this film on really any level. The cast was superb and the acting top notch. Samuel Jackson was the character that offered a bit of comic relief in an otherwise engaging and completely well scripted story that thematically covered Tarzan's split loyalties regarding his social heritage of mankind versus the lessons and value of his upbringing in the jungle. It covers prejudice and labels and how each character deals with them, but it never gets so heady with the material that it becomes preachy and forgets to entertain. These ideals are examined intensely as Tarzan returns to his origins to examine rumors of a corrupt and bankrupt dictator involved in matters that, if true, would be life changing to everything he knows in that region. That's as vague as I can explain it without getting into spoiler material. Suffice to say this is a completely engaging story that is often emotional in many places. The effects are superb in IMAX and the gorillas looked and acted as I would expect in this genre. The cinematography is breathtaking and the score is enthralling and well suited for this material. I completely recommend this film to anyone who enjoys great story telling who also have even a remote interest in this character. There's a reason why audiences are giving this film an A cinema score. My crowd applauded at the end. Don't listen to the critics. They got this completely wrong and allot more people are showing up to see this film which is forcing the industry analysts to nearly double their original weekend estimates. 9.5 out of 10.

I'm not quite as enthusiastic as MIB41, but I liked it. It is a great-looking movie with digital effects that are convincing. It's a nice fusion of ERB's original and the Weissmuller film version of the character. It's a fairly faithful take on ERB's original stories, but there are little nods to the Weissmuller films throughout the movie, which I really appreciated. His origin is nicely told in flashbacks that weave in and out of the story unobtrusively. The scope of the plot seemed rather grand to me for the character. Jackson and Waltz's characters were stereotypical as the sidekick and villain. I was expecting Waltz to twirl his mustache and tie Margot Robbie up to a train track at any moment. Skarsgård played Tarzan a little cool for my taste, but that's a minor quibble. The camera loves Robbie, and she did a nice job with a part that could have been very thin. Her facial expressions and spunk lent a lot to her role. She sells scenes with a smile or a facial expression. The movie may unfold a bit slow for impatient younger viewers , but if you like Tarzan, I can't see how you wouldn't enjoy it, if not love it.

                      We just got back.

Really good bordering on good good good.

Wife and kid really enjoyed it. He's 5. We all talked about it on the drive home.

If you were on the fence I say go see it.

Just got back from seeing it, the whole family enjoyed it. It's a bit ponderous at the beginning but it's so nice to see the character of Tarzan handled so well.

I read some of the so called "Bad reviews" and they all seemed to have general contempt for the property itself more than an criticism of the film. More than one felt "snobby".

I would agree with most of what's been written above. It's a perfectly good summer movie. It won't change anyone's life, but it was a nice enough way to spend a couple of hours at the movies. Good cast for sure. The villain is a bit of a stereo type, but it works here. Note sure you need a complicated background for the villain in a Tarzan movie anyway. Margo Robbie does a good job with a fairly thin role. My girlfriend nearly passed out looking at Alexander Skarsgård, so some eye candy for all I guess.

Well I saw it today and it stands above most other Tarzan movies/tv series. I am SOOOO glad that Michel Phelps didn't get the role.

At one time, the film's producer Jerry Weintraub had someone else in mind - Olympic champion Michael Phelps. In a new piece in Vanity Fair, Weintraub said he had his eye on Phelps for the part and thought the casting would be a coup for the project: "It's going to be like Johnny Weissmuller. the reporters are going to say, 'Weintraub found the new Johnny Weissmuller.'" There was just one problem - Phelps is an athlete, not an actor. Weintraub's opinion changed after watching Phelps host SNL: "This isn't Tarzan! This isn't Johnny Weissmuller! He's a goon! Why didn't anyone tell me he's a goon? Turn it off. Goddammit, turn it off."
