Is that a Red Tornado emblem behind him?

Yep! I'm bragging to my family that I called it WAY back that the man in the iron mask was the REAL Jay Garrick, and that it just might be John Wesley Shipp!

I was down on the back half of this season quite a bit. I still think they made the characters a little too stupid to raise the stakes every episode, but all is forgiven. They redeemed themselves with this one.

Shipp goes into detail about the process that led him to actually playing Jay Garrick....after nearly every fan thought he would when he was cast in the series 2 years ago:

This was great, and seeing Shipp in costume and donning the helmet gave me a chill . . . but they needed to let him on on the action! He had a score to settle with Zoom as well, and giving Barry a chance to team up with the super-powered version of his father, combined with a chance for the audience to see the real Jay Garrick fight side-by-side with Barry would have been EPIC, and so they left me just the tiniest bit let down.

^They are saving that for later no doubt. Shipp confirms he's coming back next season. So we'll get Jay, probably Wally and possibly Jesse as speedsters next season. Plus, the fallout from Barry's decision to do what he meant to do last season!

^^ Oh, I've little doubt we'll see it eventually. But it had become clear some time ago the man in the iron mask was the real Jay and would turn out to be Shipp, and I really wanted to see the team-up -- hell, after Henry was killed, I was expecting Jay to go all paternal with Barry ("Y'know something, kid, you remind me of my son . . . ") and see two great Flashes take down Zoom. Like I said, great ep, but it just left me . . . unfulfilled . . . as to what I think they could have done with minimal tinkering to just the story they had there.

Always good to see a general fan consensus work out and pretty clever to build an entire plot-point to get tha reveal. Most shows would have just dumped Shipp in the costume and ran him out surfing sweeps.

So...JSA is sorta inevitable now. Don't see why they can't use Alan Scott.

Makes me wonder how much of this is driven by Snyder's refusal to inter-connect with CW.

Yeah, that would have been nice to see, but I think the creators wanted Barry to win the day on his own. They had written him as such a dullard in many of the episodes this season, just to have him lose over and over and raise the stakes higher and higher. I think he needed to take the victory lap himself, even though he didn't feel too victorious at the end.

^^ Maybe my fan impulses are blinding me to it, but I think they were too worried about dropping a teaser for next season and getting to the episode's tag.

They already had a split dilemma plot device -- Zoom has to be kept busy while someone else risked death to stop the machine -- and Jay could have easily handled the part time-remnant Barry did, surviving it to everyone's shock because he knows some Flash trick ("Well sure, that would disintegrate you -- if you didn't phase in and out of time as you run. There's a few tricks you pick up when you've been the Flash as long as I have, Slugger.") Win for Barry outracing Zoom and taking him down, win for Jay saving his Earth, win for us getting to see them in action together.

It's interesting a different and younger JSA member Hourman (Rex Tyler) was introduced in the finale of Legends and he actually said he was a member of the JSA. He might be from Earth 3, like Jay?

...so trying to follow the Family Tree Logic...minus the Alternate Realities...does that make Jay Garrick Flash's Great-Great-GrandFather and/or Great-Uncle??? ...since Garrick was Flash's Father's Mother's Maiden Name?

I thought the same thing last night -- maybe Rex's ship was damaged because it's been hopping not just time, but realities?

I was thinking something more like E3 Jay maybe lost his dad before he was born and his mother named him with her family name, so he'd still be the equivalent of Barry's father.

I was feeling like a little kid reading comics when watching this last night.
