I always read both but when I was growing up in the 70's it was mostly Marvel, in the 80's starting with Crisis I switched to DC (Crisis, Dark Knight, Watchmen, Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run, the Vertigo titles in the late 80's into the 90's). After the 90's I mostly stopped reading monthly comics. Now when it comes to pure nostalgia, my heart is with bronze age Marvel. But my absolute favourite is still 50's EC (from before I was born!)

Back in the days when I actually collected comics (and they weren't 4 to 5 bucks a piece), I'd have to say my early allegiance was to MARVEL, largely because my brother gave me a box of his comics to read when I was about five (I mostly just dug the pictures at that age) that consisted mostly of SPIDER-MAN, IRON MAN, THE FF, THOR and NICK FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS. When I got old enough to start earning some greenbacks, I'd make my twice monthly trip up to CONVENIENT and EIGHT MILE PHARMACY and pick up new issues of the same characters, but add in AVENGERS, MTU and whatever else MARVEL put out that caught my eye. Then I figured I owed it to MARVELS's Direct Competition to check out what they were selling and immediately got bitten by the BATMAN bug along with THE FLASH, GREEN LANTERN, JLA and WW. As I got older I kept up with both publishing houses and, after high school, started adding in some independents, as well. Overall, I'd say I was both a MARVEL and a DC guy. Just wish the comics now we're as good as the comics were then, but at least I'll always have back issues...sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

Was always Marvel for me, loved everything they did from 62' to 94' after that not so much till the Movies, but as a kid i was always glued to the tv on saturday mornings for Superfriends, if i had to chose one from DC as my fav it would have to be the FlashComment

As a kid, I didn't know there were two big companies, and my faves were simply my faves. I've always tended toward the more iconic qualities of DC's characters, but Captain America, Spider-Man, and Iron Man were always favorites as well.Comment

I like them both. If I'm pushed against the wall, I guess I'd pick DC characters, but if I think of my favorite comic-book runs, Marvel would be at the top.
My favorite DC stories are generally single issues. But when I think of Daredevil, it's in terms of Miller's entire run. Same with Claremont/Byrne's X-Men and Byrne's FF.
The Super Friends led me to the Justice League, which I still enjoy greatly, as a kid. I remember getting the small paperback reprints of early Marvel books and just devouring them — Spidey, FF, Hulk. They still remain favorites.
For whatever reason, I've always been enamored by the 1930s and 40s so the Justice Society and the Invaders and other golden-age characters have always been near and dear to my heart.
Green Lantern and Superman are my co-favorite characters, Batman would be next with the FF, Spidey, Cap and the Hulk next.
So, I guess DC, but I really can't imagine not having read Avengers and Defenders and the Marvel monsters.
It's kind of like sports. Football is my favorite, but when I'm watching hoops or baseball, I'm totally engrossed in that game. As much as I like Superman and GL, when I'm reading great Spidey or FF or Cap comics, I get totally wrapped up in them.
I know a lot of you that once really enjoyed DC characters lost interest with the New 52. I did also to a degree. But I have to say, if you give some of the new directions that started in June a chance, there is some interesting stuff. They are different from the characters we fell for in our youth, but Robo-Bat, depowered Superman and Firefly Green Lantern are fun takes on the characters. Hitch's Justice League book is good and Johns/Fabok's JLA book featuring Darkseid and New Gods is even better. The Martian Manhunter book is a cool take that reminds me of the Homeland TV show in many ways. Likewise the new book called Doom is kind of a cross between Spider-Man and Hulk with an early Marvel vibe.
Who knows what Marvel will do after all the Secret Wars stuff is over. But I'm going to at least check out Mark Waid's Avengers book and the Spider-Man book.Last edited by madmarva; Aug 22, '15, 11:41 AM.Comment

Silver Age Marvel is in my (childhood) blood...
Modern Age (90's) DC is at the core my young adult collecting years...
...and EC's have ALWAYS been a point of fascination throughout all my years collecting...I LOVE My EC Sets!!!Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!Comment

I was mostly Marvel growing up. Spider-Man was and is my favorite character and I guess by extension that was the universe I leaned towards. At various times I picked Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers, and Hulk in addition to Spidey. Didn;t hurt they were publishing Star Wars either. That said my 2nd favorite is unquestionably Batman. As an adult collector having now collected a good chunk of the 70's/80's Marvel I grew up with it was only natural I did some exploring on the DC side. Having nearly completed the Justice League/Batman title runs I wanted I find myself branching out more and more. First it was Wonder Woman initially because I got some in a free box. From I ended buying nearly 100 WW back issues over the year and she has become of my favorite characters. I've recently been buying 70's/80's Superman/Action, Green Lantern (which I did buy an issue of here and there back in the day) and Flash. While some of the GL stories take more serious tones, the Superman/Flash books are just plain FUN and there's nothing wrong that.Comment

I'm a good story, good art guy...I grew up loving both companies and characters from other companies as well. I don't have any loyalty to one company and don't lean in favor of one or the other. Whatever is good I'll read and follow.Comment

I've always had an immense love for both with regards to comics. When it comes to movies, DC seem to own that market for decades, while Marvel wallowed in low budget shows and TV movies. These days Marvel has enjoyed the majority share of profitable films with the best ideas for the past 14 years. But DC is finally waking up to that market, so we'll see what happens.Comment

Pretty much just down to the characters these days, burned out of Marvel in the 80s (Not a mutant guy) and I was pretty DC loyal until the 2000s. Now I don't buy any books at all.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions
