I was exclusively a Marvel kid. Although I did inherit my two older brothers' collections, so I had a ton of DC books (still do). I just never really read them. If I have to pick a DC favorite, I guess I'll punt and say Batman. Loved the Justice League cartoons, the '60s show and the Batman Mego (which was my second favorite as a kid). I just never read the books.

Of course I grew up with the DC legacy characters and Super Friends and always had a fondness for them. However, looking back now I can see that outside of the main ten DC characters there is a HUGE drop off of quality. Marvel is smaller in scope and scale and is therefore able to flesh out their characters a bit more and keep them more grounded. That make them far more interesting to me. When you can have a series or mini of supporting c-list characters like the Shroud, Wonder Man Machine Man and Cloak and Dagger and make them not only successful but also engaging you've really accomplished something. With the huge history and back stories of the DC mains its often a struggle to relate and to write them.
DC has the more iconic, heroic characters. Marvel has the more relatable and realistic characters. Neither is necessarily as advantage, but I pretty much hate both publishers now so we're talking 70's and 80's for me.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

A big fan of both, but if I had to pick it would be DC every time. As for character/s, it has to be Batman and Superman. Love them both in equal measures.Comment

Let's leave the decussions about the modern films out of this. And mention your favorite from the other company.
Even though I love Marvel, Hulk never did much for me. He just seems boring. Those early DD books were tough to get into as well.Comment

I'm a die-hard DC guy, but I can only echo Earth2 Chris' sentiments. My interest lies pretty firmly in Silver-Bronze tradition; it's hasn't been easy for me to enjoy most of DC's media output lately--In the last nine years, the only comics I've stuck with feature Aquaman.
I do have Marvel favorites, though: Captain America & Daredevil.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

As a DC guy primarily, I completely identified with Marvel's solo characters, mostly the non-powered ones. My favs were always Captain America, Iron Fist, Falcon, Black Panther, Hawkeye and Daredevil. You can imagine how much I loved Contest of Champions where some of these guys got to fight each other.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

As a kid, I liked them both but my wallet voted DC overwhelmingly. Big fan of JLA, JSA, All-Star Squadron, World's Finest, and all of the Dollar Comics. Also loved the Krypton mini-series. I guess I felt more "bang for the buck" with DC, but I still liked all things Marvel, too.
I don't read today's comics, but I enjoy picking up Marvel stuff from the Bronze Age these days and I have been reading my way, on and off, through years worth of Marvel starting with Fantastic Four #1. I'm pretty Marvel focused these day when I buy and read.Comment

DC all the way. I do like some Marvel titles...but a hell of a lot more DC titles than Marvel. Being the DC person has unfortunately meant the end of my collecting/reading anything new that is coming from them. They've completely F'd up with the direction they have gone in."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

Learned to read on Marvel and it stayed that way until a combo of Firestorm and the Byrne reboot of Superman. I didn't drop Marvel until the 90's and then went DC crazy for few years. Dropped it all in the late 90's for a few series, then went to graphic novels.
I read some Big Two modern stuff, and outside material for film/TV development, I have no idea what they're thinking or who the audience is.Comment

Silver Age DC is my favorite, and Bronze Age Marvel (especially stuff like Marvel TeamUp, Defenders, Marvel Two in One, Premiere, etc).
Today it's almost all independent stuff, buying very little from the Big Two.Comment

I had Marvel Comics before I knew how to read. My Grandmother worked for Curtis in Philly, Marvels distributor, and every week she give me a bag full of everything they published that week. This continued until a was in high school. Yeah, Im a Marvel guy but I always bought Batman and Detective Comics when my parents would take me to the book store at the Berlin farmers market.Comment

Primarily a Marvel guy, piggybacking on Random Axe's statement, I found that I could relate more to Marvel's characters and storylines. Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, The Defenders, The Invaders and The Avengers were the titles that I followed the most faithfully. My DC favorites as a kid were Flash and Legion of Superheroes, in the 90s Hellblazer, Sandman and The Demon were added to my favorites list.Comment

At this moment in time? Totally Team Marvel. They are crushing at the movies, and I'm reading more Marvel titles than anything else. Prior to the period during the New 52 when Geoff Johns jumped off of Aquaman and Green Lantern, it was a pretty even split for me still.
At other times in my life? 90's it was definitely DC, because they had the better writers. as a kid, Marvel Marvel Marvel. In the 80's it was again a pretty even split with the Post Crisis DC really giving Marvel a run for their money.Comment
