Exactly. There's definitely some back pedaling occurring here because the last scenes in MOS were so misplaced given the magnitude of the destruction. It was hard to imagine a Superman looking content after his city had been destroyed and thousands of lives likely lost. It was an odd lapse in logic for the writers and director to think audiences would somehow pardon the oversight. Of course that's not always a rare event in film. I've shook my head at allot of lapses even in the most classic of films. Isn't it interesting that a character like Brody (in Jaws) would make peace with the ocean and his fear of sharks only after killing one and dispersing an acre long slick of blood in the water with him in it? I always found that as a bit of unintended humor. But I digress. Early trailers of BVS certainly seems to suggest there was a large segment of the audience who DID take note of the destruction oversight, which is why they are tackling that complaint early by addressing it now.

Superman has always been held at a higher standard...that's why people were horrified at the destruction with his Zod fight caused.
I mean, the same destruction happened with the Avengers, the same destruction happened with Godzilla, heck, the same destruction happened even in that brief new Ultraman trailer.
But Superman is the one who gets the hate, and in a way, I understand.sigpicComment

^The Avengers were shown trying to help civilians and minimize damage. Given, there's a lot more of them than Superman, but I think those scenes of Cap saving a group of folks in an office building went along way towards minimizing the impact of the damage.
Plus it's in direct contrast to Superman's portrayal in Superman II, when Supes surveyed the damage, and turned "chicken" just to take the fight out of the city.
In addition to Superman's historical concern for public safety, I think that's why many folks hold this against the film.

Watching the SDCC Man from Uncle trailer, I can't help but see that Cavill has the breezy confidence to pull off a Superman in the vein of George Reeves or Christopher Reeve. Heck, he's got the look down... check him out with even a hint of a spit curl here at the end. Not to say Superman shouldn't have moody angst, but look at how the Marvel movies have benefited by giving their characters a range of emotional life in comparison to the singular notes they have been playing in these DC movies.

With that said. I think Man of Steel was overall a good, solidly entertaining movie. It was a great action/adventure/scifi mash-up. I would have loved this as a generic Alien Invasion/Superhuman smash up popcorn film. It just didn't "feel" like Superman to me. As least my personal view on how the character should be handled. But if this is what the majority of the movie going public wants, I'm willing to concede and retreat to rewatching Reeve and the WB animated series for my fix of nostalgia.

^I can see Ma Kent's line over Pa's. Martha is defending her kid. The world is beating up on him. It's a parent reaction. That's what I took it as. The Pa Kent thing...that set the tone for the film in that trailer...and it followed it to the letter.
That's why I was happy to see at least a glimmer of hope, (or "S", if you will) in this latest trailer. The other part of Ma's speech, and what Lois says to Superman, point toward a POSSIBLY lighter tone, once we are past this. At least that's what I hope. I doubt it will ever be as light as I'd like it, and the way I think the DCU should always be, but any light poking through would be appreciated at this point.

And looks like Chris Pine has been cast as Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman movie.
Pine’s casting involves…
…a multi-picture deal that includes sequel options, according to insiders…
"Steve Trevor will be no mere love interest for Gadot’s Diana Prince, as there will be plenty of action to keep him busy, though plot details remain under wraps."Last edited by Bruce Banner; Jul 29, '15, 2:45 PM.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

so much for those Hal Jordan/Chris Pine rumors. Darn it.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Has anyone watched the Death of Superman Lives documentary yet? There is some footage of Nic Cage doing costume tests as Clark Kent. He is wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt and a blazer. Everyone is laughing their butts off, talking about how stupid he looks. He says something to the effect of "That's the point. Only an idiot would dress like this. Definitely not Superman!"
This is the first thing I thought of when I saw this picture of "Lex".Comment
