I know many of our iconic American superheroes have been played by British actors (Christian Bale as Batman, Henry Cavill as Supes, Andrew Garfield as Spidey)... and quite honestly, it has never been a big issue for me. But come on... this kid may be a great talent, but he could not look more British if you put him in a newsboy cap and had him say, "Pip pip cheerio! Shine your shoes, guvna?"
Agreed. This guy may be 19, but he LOOKS about 12, which I've never envisioned as being Spider-MAN material. I thought with MARVEL more behind this, they would get it right this time (and maybe they will), but this guy DOES look like Spider-Boy...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Peter Parker was 16-17 in high school when he started out as Spider-MAN, and a skinny little dweeb, so this 19 year old is perfect for a in the beginning Spidey.

Just have to get THIS off my chest, so, apologies in advance for the "location dropping" (is that a term?).
I was an extra during the Macho Man scene in the first Tobey Spider-Man movie-----and there were a few hundred extras there with me in the "audience" for the "match"----and there were so many "Spider-Boy" catcalls that eventually Tobey would quip back-----one memorable one was: "I'm Spider-Boy? Well, you're Wonder Woman."
Anyways---Tobey ended up doing okay in the role despite his perceived "too young" looks----if ya get what I'm getting at.
And---one more thing---T-bolt pointed out the appropriate enough age-match via comicbook history---but, I'd to add to that, that in a movie where so many of Marvel's top dogs are being played by older men, having the very powerful (in both fictional strength AND real-life box-office) Spider-Man being played by more of the "smart-mouthed whippersnapper" seems WAY smart so as to have VARIETY in the major characters, and almost have the other older superhero guys be like a "father-figure" to him.
