Smallville was good for what it was designed to be, a five season series. The story arc played itself out well and the show had good intentions and was entertaining. Unfortunately it was on WB/CW which meant it was a little too "teen angst" sometimes and worse, got extended for two more years which meant they spun their wheels waaaaaaay too much until it was time to wrap it up. The Clark/Lex dynamic was very well done, poor Lex never stood a chance.
I'd like to see Welling in the suit, too.

I've never seen an episode of Smallville so I can't speak to his acting ability, but if you've seen a recent picture of him he looks the part every bit as much as Cavill. I could easily see it working.

I tried a couple times to get into the show, but ugghh, couldn't do it. I don't think you missed much, it will probably end up a slight footnote in the character's history.

Smallville was great! Lex and lionel luthor were super villians. Then you had the JLA hawkman dr. Fate Sandman Star Girl, first time seeing those characters on the screen. The first couple of season are all about him trying to understand his powers. Then you have the different types of Kryptonite how it affects him. John Schneider as Mr. Kent Wonderful job. About the 4th season starts to get really interesting.
