What made the Spider-man comic popular was the characterization Lee and Ditko infused into the series. Not just with Parker., but with the supporting characters and villains. Spider-man's look and powers are very nice but it's the character work that set the series and character apart.
The germ of the original idea isn't nearly as important as how Ditko and Lee advanced it.
