These heroes take the law into their own hands in their constant fight for justice. Sometimes violently and sometimes without recourse to lawful procedures. This makes them both respected and feared by hero and villain alike. While there have been many "anti-heroes" in popular fiction, a select few rise above the rest and into the imaginations of readers. Here are the 10 best of the best who fight crime on their terms...and we love them for it.

I just don't get the fascination with Batman. He's just a guy. The whole purpose of him disguising himself as a giant bat is pretty much useless once people realize he's actually NOT a giant bat. Without this "boogeyman" factor, he's just not that impressive. Any super powered foe could take him out. I mean seriously...what could Batman do against the Hulk? Nothing.
Heck, a certain bald guy in a wheelchair could turn Batman into a vegetable with a single THOUGHT. THAT is a badass in my book.Comment

he is such a badass because he does what he does, without having any super powers, the "smart" super powered heroes/villains, know how formidable he isComment

No, he's a badass because he's hyped up so much. Most of his villains are also powerless, and even those that are fall on the very weak end of the spectrum. The Hulk could walk right up to Godzilla and ***** slap him back to the stone age. THAT'S badass.
As far as that list goes, I think Ghost Rider is the most badass. He took down Galactus by just looking him in the eyes.Comment

Hmmm. Depends how people describe "badass".
These guys are definitely not the strongest ones around, more like the ones "with most attitude".
So if the word means "dark, loner, brooding, ruthless, violent vigilante", yeah, they are pretty badass.
But honestly, someone like Ben Grimm would squash the lot of them with one fist. Thing is not considered badass because he's the guy with the heart of gold, but he's badass to me.
And take someone like Ash from Evil Dead. His hand is possessed by demons, he cuts it off with a chainsaw and mounts it on the stump. Pretty badass if you ask me.
I think the initial question isn't 100% clear ("what is badass?")....

Another great list! Although, I also think Hulk should be on it.
BTW John, it was great meeting you at Hartford Comic Con this past weekend. I didn't know you were on here until I checked out your blog you told me about. I met you late Sunday with my Wife & Daughter. I had a Spider-Man T-shirt on and my Daughter was wearing her Robin costume. It was cool to see your Ben Cooper Spider-Man costume, and also to hear the great story you have about it.Comment

Ah yes, I do remember. Glad to have met you and your wonderful family. Facebook me if you like.
As for the Hulk? He is more of a "force of nature" than hero. Doesn't the Hulk do whatever the Hulk pleases? He just didn't fit the criteria I had in my head.
Hope to see you at some other cons, because I'm usually at all of them...Comment

Batman is a badass!
The Hulk, on the other hand, is too powerful to be considered a badass; it's easy when you are stronger than 99.9% of the foes you face.Comment
