It would have been perfect, but they're banking on setting up the Justice League, so what would've been an appropriate title with decades of legacy now "has to be" (so to speak) eliminated.

That said, it seems like even if they would've chose "World's Finest" as a title, they would've been deadset on having Superman and Batman's name be part of it.

Looks like the "Nolan Batmovies, plus the Nolan produced MOS era brazenness", has now given way to the "fear of losing out to Marvel in the superhero movie box office wars" era.

So much so that this Superman sequel is now "NOT a Superman sequel".

Good luck WB/DC---you're gonna need it.

Then how about: Batman Vs. Superman: Property Damage Among Us?

But seriously, they were damned if they did, and damned if they didn't. It's an okay title. It makes sense.

I just do not understand DC anymore. MOS was a throw-away movie, they rushed to get the movie out before the ruling on the court case about who owns Superman. If the won they were THEN going to start on the DCCU. Instead Marvel has been kicking there but and they are trying to tie MOS into there DCCU. I do not give the sequal much chance, but I will watch it.

I dunno. Haven't seen MOS or even DKR. There's a better chance I might see this, though not a strong chance. Voting with dollars, y'know?

If the hints that Goyer and Snyder gave last summer about the plot are still valid, it seems the destruction from MOS leads to a showdown between Batman and Superman and that clash might draw out other heroes and villains.

If that's the case, then it is a sequel to MOS that introduces other elements of the DCU. But no, it's not a solo Superman movie.

If Batman was operating under the cover of an urban legend in Gotham City, with the city government and police denying his existence to the public, that level of destruction might draw him out as well as an emissary/ambassador from Paradise Island/themyscira or for that matter the King of Atlantis, heck even the Guardians of the Universe might make sure a GL checks it out.

I personally would like a plot like that if executed properly, but I don't know if that is really what they are working on. just a guess based on hints.

By that logic, Avengers is a sequel to Iron Man 2. And that's a fine way to view it..

However, to be clearer, in the conterxt of my previous posts: If Superman was the main protagonist in this movie and Batman was a "side" character, THEN it'd be a "solo Superman" movie.

....but we're not sure if that IS exactly the case yet. Avengers wasn't centered around Tony Stark, but it could have been titled "Iron Man Vs. Loki: Dawn Of The Avengers" if things were tanking over at Marvel the way they are at DC. And the truth would've been that it WASN'T an "Iron Man" movie---the Avengers team was the main protagonist--not Tony alone.

This new DCU movie? We don't know what kind of story is being served up as far as "Superman as protagonist" or any combo of Supes, Bats and WW etc as a "team" protagonist.

But we DO know one thing for SURE.

And that is that they are titling it like it's a "team" movie. "Batman Vs. Superman"---and that means they've totally switched gears on their audience----if only by title. This is NOT Man Of Steel 2 as far as the title goes---heck, it ain't even Superman's name first in the title they chose.

I think most people consider Frankenstein meets the Wolfman a sequel to The Wolfman. Despite Frankenstein's name being listed first, the plot is centered on Larry Talbot seeking a cure for Lycanthropy. Of course the movie does pick up threads from Ghost of Frankenstein.

Now, I don't know for sure what the plot to Batman v. superman will be, but with Cavil playing Superman and it picking up threads from Man of Steel, it qualifies as a sequel to MOS.

I've seen 6 solo Superman movies and between The Adventures of Superman, Lois and Clark and Smallville, I've seen hundreds of TV episodes with Superman. What I haven't seen is a live-action production featuring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

^Good points. In a way, Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman was the original "universe" film, tying two franchises together for the first time (that I'm aware of). FMTW would have had even more direct connections to "Ghost of" if Universal hadn't went scissor happy and excised all of Lugosi's lines, Igor/Monster's blindness, etc.

I'm willing to give this one a shot. The Bat-costume is promising.

As annoying as it is for Batman's name to come first in what was supposed to be Superman's sequel movie... I'm just glad they even INCLUDED Superman's name this time. MOS was fine, since we're in the know about Supe's many nicknames, but to the general public it was like having a Godzilla movie named "Giant Lizard Monster" or a King Kong movie titled "Big Ape, Big City."

I watched MOS and DKR on video (full disclosure: I wasn't a DC reader growing up. All Marvel!). I enjoyed MOS, but found DKR way too bloated and "serious for serious' sake". I will most likely be watching this one on video as well, unless the wife sees it has Ben Affleck and makes me go!
