All this "reimagined" stuff is crap in my opinion. I've ranted before about how they've ruined Electro in the new movie and how the new Superman did not resemble the character I grew up loving.
Casting a Ritchie Cunningham type guy as Lex is just on a long list of bonehead moves from Hollywood.
Yesterday we had a Film Festival in my city and I took my kids to see the original Superman the movie. Everyone clapped at the end of the film and parents enjoyed the film with thier children. Comicbook movies of this generation have lost that magic. I would be far more forgiving of these new era movies if they were something I knew I could take my eight year old with me.Check out my website: Megozine Covers - HomeComment

I think Eisenberg can project intelligence, arrogance and malevolence from what I've seen on the screen, so as Tom points out, it depends on the script and the vision of Luthor the story and the director and producers want.
Over the years, Luthor has been portrayed many different ways. We all have our favorite versions and those vary from person to person.
Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey are two of my favorite actors, but neither portrayed Luthor in a way that was even remotely similar to anything I've read in the comics. Was that their fault? Absolutely not. No matter what they brought to the part, the basis of their performance was the script.
Brian Cranston was a favorite of many for the part, but I felt he was too old. But I also know he is a fine actor and that's more important than his age. I give Eisenberg the same benefit of the doubt.Comment
