I just skipped around the youtube version on my lunch break. It's not great. It's not even really good...but as I said before, it's trying. It feels like the folks involved were enthusiastic about this picture. You can just sense that they thought everything would be fixed in post.

I watched it a few days ago. The Sue/Reed relationship is creepy with showing her as a child falling for him. The score is temp-track heaven, aping everything from Jurassic Park to Rocketeer to "TIE Fighter Attack". Oh, and Sue is hot in the spandex. A google image search reveals she aged pretty well in the past 20 years.

Sue was actually well-cast, I thought. I always got the impression Sue was classy-sexy, not hot-sexy like Jessica Alba, if you get my drift. Her "4" symbol on her stomach drove me nuts though. You can see her today in that Doomed trailer on page 1.

The creepy backstory of Reed and Sue's May/December romance is from the comics. Seems they like vary their ages, but here he's clearly in his early 20s and she's maybe 13. Although he doesn't seem to reciprocate in any icky way when she's young, he wastes no time getting cuddly once she grows up.

The first ten minutes or so before they go off to space really does kinda of hold up well in terms of story and performances of the time in a TV movie kinda way. You can imagine what the same cast and creative team could have done with a budget, and I don't think it would have fared any better or worse than the more recent two films with the creative choices they made (the first ten minutes I mean).

^Agreed. It fits in with the Hulk revival TV movies pretty well, until you get to the space launch, etc.

Then you get into the stretching "effects" and Johnny's Game Genie CGI at the end.

I agree with the tv ovie statement, compared to the other marvel properties in the mid 80's and 90's (Lundgren Punisher, generation x fox tv movie, daredevil tv movie with rex smith, hulk and thor, cap 1990 with matt Salinger) it's not far from the bar set by them. That said the bar was fairly low and the general ecominc failure of the punishe and cap films didn't help the Corman FF. That said it's way better than the JLI pilot

They could enhance the original easily enough and step up with state of the art effects and release it for dvd/blue ray. I would defo buy it.

I'd echo a lot of the sentiments here. I enjoyed it for what it was; it seemed to me a stylistic continuation of other, limited TV Marvel efforts.

I have to admit I liked Culp's Dr. Doom--I do enjoy a good slice of ham.

Doom is the hammiest villain in comics. He's the original, overly dramatic, self-monologueing despot. I think the guy nailed the comic character pretty well. And his look was very authentic.
