Yeah,.. He brought us a Batman that smiles in every scene.

The latest All Star Book,.. was disturbing when Robin almost killed Green Lantern,.. & Then Batman kinda beats the crap outta him.. that whole 3or4 page Scene was very odd. But what can you do. The book is riddled with Bad writing, constant Delays & over powering Critizim .. However it is still on the shelf, & has not been canceled yet. I personally look forward to this book ending,.. then Lee can get back to His WildC.A.T.S Relaunch.

It's revolutionary, innovative, cutting-edge, all the superlatives that have been lauded at it, it deserves. BUT, it made lesser talents see Batman as a complete non-heoric psycho, and that has stuck with the character in the past 22 years. Even Miller was unable (or unwilling) to recapture his extreme-but-still-sane characterization in DK2 and All-Star Batman. Very few have dared to write a Batman that is haunted but not completely damaged by his parent's death. It's much easier to write Batman as the little boy out to beat thugs to death since mommy and daddy died.

Batman was a very well-fleshed out character before Miller came around. Writers like O'Neil, Wein and Englehart saw to that. Miller took some of those ideas to more extreme ends, but it still felt "right". The same can't be said for most who followed in his footsteps and tried to ape "his" Batman.

            AMEN!
I agree with you 100% Chris. Batman hasnt been Batman ever since DK came out. I think the first Burton movie had a hand in dragging things further to the "dark side" of the character as well.

Anyone ever read the BratPack series? Frank Miller pretty much stole the alot of the book's ideas, to a degree, and used them in the All Star Batman. That's not Batman, it's the Midnite Mink. IMHO Frank has been whipping his @ $ $ with DC for years and the fools pay him to do it.

I read Brat Pack when it came out. I don't remember it that well, but I don't think All Star Batman mimics that mini-series.

I don't know what All Star Batman mimics other than a train wreck. It isn't just lousy Frank Miller, it is just plain lousy Batman. Between this and DK2, it seems Miller is intentionally trashing the character.

It is hard to believe that this is the same guy that wrote such great Daredevil issues and Year One.

It mimics BratPack in the extreme violence in one way. The Black Canary is not much different than the Moon Maidian or her sidekick. Also FM's Batman actions are very much like the Midnite Mink's pedos. Even the blogger in the link spotted the pedo/Batman creepy stuff.

Yes, I can see the pedo-hints being in common between Bratpack and All Star Bats. Fair point.

I agree with earlier comments: Jim Lee's art is still great.

^^^ I just don't get the sheep herd mentality of buying it because its Jim Lee. Its still GARBAGE! This is the the only reason this book is still out there. There have been books that the art was great in them, Justice comes to mind, that I couldn't stomach the crap writing anymore and stopped buying. DC should just publish a Jim Lee Batman posterbook, and not pay Miller.

Ya gotta wonder what Jim Lee himself thinks of Miller's writing?

Funny you guys should mention that. I wondered the same thing. It will be interesting to read an interview with Lee in a few years if he is asked that question. He might be inclined to give a more accurate response after some time has passed.

I bet he looks at the script each month and thinks: "Oh well, at least I get to draw Batman and the Green Lantern!"
