Brings me back to 25 years ago when WB announced that Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson were cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman and the Joker. Those choices raised more than a few eyebrows. People were also skeptical about Chris Reeve, a mostly unknown actor at the time being cast as Superman in the late 1970's, IIRC.

Honestly, I just don't get the hate for the DD film. Had the Director's cut been released theatrically, I think these discussions would be very different.
I find it amusing that all the "blame" is heaped on Affleck. Farrell's Bullseye, anyone?WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

Irrelevant what movies Aflleck has been in, he's all wrong for Batman in so many levels.
And yes, I've seen all his movies, I actually like Affleck, just not as Batman.
BTW, Affleck's best acting performance by far is The Town, I'm surprised you didn't list that one. That's his signature movie as far as I'm concerned, great crime drama flick.
Good Will Hunting was Matt Damon's breakout performance, not Affleck's.
Dogma was played for laughs...Hollywoodland was a total borefest, and Argo is overrated...Zero Dark Thirty was the superior film that year.
Raindeer Games was OK.
And for your information, I personally thought Daredevil was not bad, it was actually a decent move.
One last parting shout...Gigli, there, lol.Last edited by Hector; Aug 24, '13, 8:17 PM.sigpicComment

I would prefer characters cast by B and C list actors--big names bring too much baggage IMO.
But I don't think casting Affleck is intrinsically a disaster. To me, the script and design are equally important.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

He's too bloody famous. Michael Keaton was not on the level of Affleck, that's why it kinda worked (even though I never was enamored by Keaton, I thought he was physically too puny, thus the invention of the damn rubber suit, lol).
That's why Kilmer and Clooney didn't work...too famous.
Now, Christian Bale at the time, was a respected actor, but was still not an A-lister like Affleck is right now.
Affleck is friggin' 41 years old...he's 11 years older than Henry Cavill/Superman...Affleck is also three inches TALLER than Cavill...so now we have a Batman who will TOWER over Superman, that's just not right...and by the time Affleck finishes playing Batman (all the sequels and all)...the dude is going to be in his bloody 50s...please.
Oh yes, he already played Daredevil, lol.
As I said, yes, he is a good actor...and even better director...I give him props for that...but when you see him on screen as Batman...you will NOT say to yourself, 'hey, that's Batman!", no, you will say, "That's Ben Affleck!"
Oh, and Gigli, dear gawd, Gigli...I just can't erase that abortion of a flick starring Benifer...time will pass...billions of years will pass...infinity will keep going on...and still can't forget about Gigli, lol.
And that's why he doesn't work in so many levels.sigpicComment

I think Affleck was perfect as Matt Murdock, perhaps played him a little too cocky for a blind lawyer, but what Affleck had to his advantage in the DD movie was that he had the look of a comic book Matt Murdock, that's half the battle right there. Bale looks like Bruce Wayne in the comic books, so that was half the battle won, the other half is then his acting ability which is all that counts after that. When casting for Superman MOS, i remember the director saying that all Cavill had to do is walk in with a red cape and you could believe he was Superman. Affleck does not conjure up in my mind the image of Bruce Wayne, neither did Keaton, Kilmer or Clooney. Thats why everyone is getting bent out of shape over this.Last edited by clemso; Aug 25, '13, 3:05 AM.Comment
