Bale was cool as a relative unknown, but he wasn't being asked to do a lot. Act smarmy as Bruce, talk like cookie monster as Bats. Nothing to it based on Nolan's version of Batman.

Now, the Batman we all know and mostly love is known as the World's Greatest Detective. WTH did Bale's Batman ever detect? What cunning and intellect did he ever have to show aside from sneaky ninja skills and weapon tech? Whoever this new actor is will have to be suave and nuanced but also have a commanding presence and controlled intensity. Yeah, good luck with that...Should be interesting.
Actually, Mount was born in 1973 which makes him forty-ish---IMHO, just the right age to bring some gravitas to the character of both Wayne and The BatMAN. After all, look at IRON MAN and RD,J...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

The problem is that Cavill just turned 30...so the next Bstman actor can't be way older than him...both Supes and Bats should be around the same age, just my two cents of course.

The best part of the Superman/Batman dichotomy was that they were always peers. They were always around the same age, same height, same hair color, same eye color and were both orphans. It was their vast character and personality differences that separated them. Having one disctinctly older and wiser than the other alters that balance and makes Batman more of a mentor/tutor than a contemporary.

However, of they do go the route of Mound he has the look, intensity and vibe of both Bruce and Batman. Maybe he can pull off being younger or explain his looking older to his lifestyle. I like your choice but I like having my World's Finest team as authentic as possible.

He's certainly got the intensity to play "The Batman" (as opposed to just "Batman"), plus he's got the physique to pull off he role without the addition of a bunch of rubber/leather, he can do suave and debonair for Bruce Wayne and---not to sound biased against the Brits----he's AMERICAN! I'd LOVE to see an American playing an American superhero instead of another British actor!!!
I really don't trip on nationalities.

American Meryl Streep played English Margaret Thatcher...

...American/Australian Mel Gibson played Scottish William Wallace, Spaniard Antonio Banderas played Mexican Pancho Villa, and so on, and those were factual historical people.

Comic book superheroes are fictional, as far as I'm concern, an Argentine could play Batman as long as he looks like Bruce Wayne and doesn't have an accent, lol.

So go nuts, Aussie Hugh Jackman, continue playing Canadian Wolverine, lol.

Nationalities don't really bother me, either, Hec. But the red-blooded American in me just thinks it would be way cool to see an actual American playing a wholly American creation since you've had a Brit playing: Batman, Spider-Man and Superman in that order. They all do a fine job in the roles, I just wish the studios would give an American a chance to play the role...

Trust me, a little hair coloring and you'd likely never guess too much of an age difference between Cavill and Mount. If you've ever watched HOW, his character doesn't come across as being in his forties at all...

I don't think they will use Mount, RA, it's just wishful thinking on my part. I do hope that whomever they get to play The Batman is not one of the current crop of "pretty boy" actors. He needs to be a man's man, so to speak, someone who's got a fair amount of machismo to him, IMHO. Actually, Chris Pine could pull off a pretty good Bruce Wayne/Batman, but he's likely too locked into the STAR TREK franchise to be of use as The Batman. Ideally, WB needs to launch a nationwide talent search for a late twenties/early thirties Clint Eastwood type since I always thought that Eastwood would've made a fantastic big screen Batman back in his youth...

Sam Worthington woukd make a great Batman...he's got that "look" for the part.
Yeah, he has the "look"... but Worthington can't act.

I think Worthington can act (I mean, not Daniel Day Lewis act, but decent enough), guess we have different opinions, lol.

Actor nationalities don't concern me in the slightest, either.
If they're good in the role, look the part, and can pull off the accent of the character they're playing, it's all good.

My greatest hope is they will finally start embracing a comic look for the Dark Knight and get away from the standard black rubber. It's time. And I think audiences are ready.

^amen, brother. But if they wouldn't use Superman's traditional suit, I think we're going to be stuck with black rubber armor.

I always thought Eastwood would have been a good batman. His movie The Dead Pool came out during the same time period The Dark Night Returns was hitting comic stores in '86. Though he was a lot slimmer than Miller's interpretation, he would have been perfect for a 55ish year old Batman coming out of retirement at that time. I think his face would have looked great in the cowl/helmet.

If they ever do adapt Batman Beyond, he would be perfect for old man Bruce.

I'm warming up to Worthington as Batman. He's got menacing eyes and a jawline that would work in the mask. But I still believe Urban is the best choice. Someone mentioned Tim Olyphant before, and I think he'd be good, too, but he's in his 40s, too.

Of all the Batmen, I think Clooney looked best or most like the Batman of the comics in the mask, but that movie is sooo bad it's hard to even think about.

We're all thinking about ages of actors and while a 40ish Batman would limit the guy to 3 films, probably, there are few 25 year olds that fit the role of Batman. They just look too young to me. Maybe it's just me getting old.

I know he gets a lot of crap for the growly voice, but Bale is going to be hard to top. For me, he is the first modern actor to thoroughly convince me he was both Bruce Wayne AND Batman. He was physically perfect for a Neal Adams-type Batman, and even looked a lot like Adam's interpretation through the face. Plus, he nailed the part.

To me, Adam West is the pre-"Dark Avenger of the Night" Batman, and Bale is the Dark Knight version. It sounds like the new Batman will be more like the later, especially with Snyder having the actor who played the General from MoS read excerpts from Dark Knight Returns to introduce the concept.
