    Loving classic SHAZAM!

I finally picked up the classic TV series from WB Archive and just finished the first disc.
What a great, fun show! This is what superheroes should be IMO. Yes, the 70's setting is incredibly dated, but it also really takes you back to a simpler time. I remember liking this series as a kid and am enjoying it much more now.
You can tell a lot of love went into making it. The stories, while simple, have a lot of heart to them, and are great little morality tales. Neither Michael Gray nor Jackson Bostwick were ever going to win any acting awards, and Les Tremayne is clearly the glue holding everything together, but Billy Batson is so sincere and Captain Marvel projects such kindness and warmth, you just can't help but love them both.

    Great, great show!

I kind of remember this show, but haven't seen it since I was a kid. Kinda funny how things go full circle and are good again.

I've always been a fan of the show since I saw it at a VERY young age, but I have a new appreciation for it now, having watched the DVD set with my kids. I know that parent groups neutered kids TV in the 70s, but we could use some more morality plays like SHAZAM nowadays.

Plus, I met Jackson Bostwick a few months back, and he's such a nice, gracious guy. I can't help but feel more endeared to the show now.

Meeting Jackson Bostwick was a reaffirmation of my love for the TV character and my warm memories about the show. He wasn't a person looking for fan boy accolades to boost his self esteem. And he wasn't a guy trying to nickel and dime you for extra photos or special requests. He came across as a person with a healthy ego who had built a full life long after this show left the airwaves. And you could tell he saw this show as just a nice diversion from his normal calendar and not something he lived off of. He even had family there. Just a fine individual and a pleasure to meet. A childhood hero that didn't disappoint. If you love the show and Jackson comes anywhere close to your area, I encourage you to see him so you can share in this experience.

^Totally agree. Like lots of 70s kids Shazam will always have a special place in my heart.

I watch the DVD on Saturday mornings too.

I like how it always seems to be 3:00 in the afternoon, mid-Summer, in the same 5 square miles of suburban L.A.

You expect to see Isis, Bigfoot and Wildboy running around in the background.

I'd never really seen Bigfoot and Wildboy until fairly recently when I got a Krofft compilation DVD with the "UFO" episodes on it. It was actually much better than I imagined it would be, but thought it was funny they had bionic-style sound effects when Bigfoot ran or jumped. I don't know what I was watching while this was on, because it pretty much slipped under my radar as a kid.

I need to get that Shazam set, and am surprised I haven't gotten around to it. I loved it as a kid and I know a marathon of that would be a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I was afraid revisiting the series on DVD wouldn't live up to my fond memories ( kinda like Super Friends) but I was pleasantly surprised. Sure they are predictable, but what fun.
