STAR WARS the new series from Dark Horse

Really good...it's the first Star Wars comic I've bought in years. Never been a fan of the Clone stuff or the past Jedis or future Jedis etc....THIS is what I want, Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Vader, set directly after the Death Star is blown up.

I understand it sold out too...shame that Dark Horse FINALLY did an ongoing SW book I want to read, only to know it's doomed as Disney is sending the property over to Marvel in a year or so, where I'm sure it will be given to their hack artists & crossed over with Avengers somehow.

Nice cover by Alex Ross too, I thought it was Hildebrandt at first.

I will have to check this one out. I just got back into comics after a 5 year layoff and I am looking for something good to read. I like the idea of it starting up right after the Death Star blows up as I was always curious as tho what happened in the time between SW and ESB.

Maybe since Dark Horse knows when their contracts are up, the editors and writers will plan to wrap the series up before it reverts to Marvel. If so that could actually work in the series' favor.

This could be a interesting read. Dark Horse is probably doing it the way fans have always wanted it. I wouldnt be suprised in the least if a few years from now people are saying ".....if only the movies had been as good as that last dark horse series".

So does it take off right after the one movie, until the start of the next like Shadows of the Empire? That was a good book.

That is a nice image by Ross. Star Wars has had a very "same" look for some time. That's quite the jolt in the arm there.

It starts a couple weeks after the 1st movie, with the rebels looking for a new base.

Picked up the first issue... not bad. The artwork is certainly dynamic and the somewhat stylized representations of the characters are cool, kind of reminiscent of some of the old Marvel stuff.

Story wise, it's all ground that's pretty much been covered before over the years, from way back in the Marvel days, to some of the older DH output, IIRC.

The writer hasn't really captured the essence of the major characters like Luke and Leia yet... but it's early... maybe that'll improve as the run continues.

I usually love Ross' stuff, but I actually think the composition here is a bit too crowded and the colors are visually jarring. It strains my eyes to look at the image too long.

The first issue is already going for a high price on Ebay.

I'm going to say this comic book was probably underordered. The new Star Wars comic from Dark Horse was published this week. Despite a generous overprint

Yeah, I just kind of looked past the colors...Ross has been in this odd color phase for some time now. I wish he'd move on from it, honestly. I think it kind of works here, just to break up the Star Wars painted image monotony.

I had high hopes for this title, but after reading the first issue, I wasn't impressed. Then comic was bloated with exposition and the scripter did a poor job of capturing the voices of the main characters, IMO. While the characters likenesses weren't really on the mark, I enjoyed the layouts and generally liked the art better than the story. Not a great first outing. Not sure if I'll give it another shot or not. Those throwing down $40 or $50 a pop for it on eBay will likely be disappointed if they actually read the comic.

^Most doing that are probably only interested in a possible "collectible" that they can resell later. Anyone who wants to read it knows a trade will be coming in a few months at most.

                            ^Agree.

I was really wanting to like the book, but then again, I've never really enjoyed comic adaptions of TV shows and movies. They just never have translated well for me. So, it may be a built of bias of mine speaking. Hope the book hits the right notes for others. It just didn't do it for me.

The second printing of issue 1 will reportedly feature the Ross art, but without any titles, logos or cover blurbs, etc.
