I heard the writer of this issue is getting death threats. Either he's done something horribly wrong or horribly right. In this case I'm leaning towards wrong. There are two characters I never want to see die. Peter Parker is one of them. Dick Grayson is the other. Rest in Peace Peter Parker...until they bring you back. Which they will.

^Well, that's a bit ridiculous. As hackneyed as all of this sounds, no one deserves to have their life threatened over it.

I have a problem where some of these writers have taken fairly "grounded" characters like Parker. If he truly dies (even in Doc Ock's body), then how can he ever be the "everyman" he once was? How can not being able to make the rent and worrying about Aunt May's heart medicine measure up to experiencing the afterlife?

It's like taking a Stretch Armstrong and tying his arms to two Mack trucks and pulling him as far as you can go. Even if he doesn't break, he never goes back the same way.

It's true. Science has proven it. It's 'cos your brain loses the ability to process dopamine as you get older.

          >can't wait to see how they undo that one

I'm betting it'll be the same way they ALWAYS do; reformed SpiderOc will do good for a while, eventually feel guilty about what he did to PeteyOctavius and attempt to reverse the process, chickening out at the last minute. PeteyOctavius will JUST BARELY manage to activate the anti-physics probulator, reversing the process, trapping SpiderOc in his original body.... just as the secret lair collapses. Petey's back, and Doc Oc is dead.... until a secret property of the anti-physics probulator/a space-time rift/an alien device hidden under the lair/intervention of a cosmic deity/whatever instigates the regeneration of ol' Doc Oc; who's no longer old, somewhat crazy (and forgetful 'cos he doesn't remember why Spidey really is....conveniently) and even more desirous of revenge than before 'cos he blames Spidey for his death.

          Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

          Don C.
I'm laying money down on Dr. Strange fixing things. "Hmmm. Spider-Man doesn't seem to be acting like himself lately. Perhaps, if I use the Eye of Agamotto to see what the problem is... hey, what's Doctor Octo-BY THE HOARY HOSTS OF HOGGOTH!!!!"

Then we get a 6 issue series where Strange switches Peter and Ock's minds again or something.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

I'm betting you're right. That sounds like a fun challenge for any of us willing to try. Write "The Last" Spider-man story.

AGREED 100%!!!!! The current crop of writers have NO idea what the hell to do with characters!!!

how about the psuedo rape of MJ? apparently while Ock has control he sleeps with MJ... nice for the kiddies. the arguement is it's not rape cause MJ sleeps with him of her own accord... but uh... it's pete but not Pete, so stupid and insulting

When my boys were born I hoped they'd share my love for comics, and more and more I make a point to keep them away from comics because of this garbage.

                              Anything to sell funny books....

When we were kids comic books sold just because they were comic books. Stories were quite often self-contained to one issue, with arcs being the rare exception.
There was nothing earth-shattering or status quo-changing. Costumes stayed the same and nobody died (except Bucky and Phoenix).

                              Makes me sad...
