can't wait to see how they undo that one.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
Hmmmm....
"This Man, This Spider."
I wouldn't worry too much about it, you KNOW it's not permanent. Hell; those of you out there who get my preceeding refrence know that it's not even a new story. 'Course, back int he day it'd be an issue or two; but this one will probably be closer to six.... to faciliatate collection for a GN later on.

reading the article it sounds like an interesting story arc but still.. killing off Peter Parker? This is why comics will never again have a foothold in today's youth market. When we were wee lads' the good guys always won or at least learned something from their licking that they applied in future struggles and battles. This seems more like a fantastic "What if?" story vs. changing the real continuity. Earlier I read how both Mattel and Hasbro are fearing for their lives in this new age of tech gadgets over traditional toys. Well, here's another reason why. Sad really but before we all get too emotional at the changing times, ask the guy who was a master buggy whip maker how the turn of the last century worked out for him. Still, I have to sigh just a little bit.

Don C."It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."Comment

No, they still do:
Each of those volumes is equal to about a year of a standard fold/floppy comic series.
>When we were wee lads' the good guys always won or at least learned something from their licking that they applied in future struggles and battles.
....which is kinda the point of all those books I listed; which means on this one, the curmudgeons are correct! (....and maybe they should give One Piece a go....)
I think for Spidey the problem is more us than the comic. They'd do this sort of thing ALL THE TIME and we'd be okay with it. You roll; if this story wasn't cool maybe the next one'd be. We didn't hang onto every little thing as if the whole Marvel universe hinged on it, and we'd cut the writers some slack:
>reading the article it sounds like an interesting story arc but still..
Like that. If it sounds interesting why not give it a go? Why not let it happen? Why does it HAVE to be a PERSONAL affront from the company? It's just them giving the ol' brain swap story a run. (And I DO mean "old.")

I'm sure there will be an out but it still jarring that new title is being created rather than just putting in Amazing. I try to find things like with these things I like with the stories but this one kicks me in the gut not only because of the story but because I'm been picking up Amazing every month since 1982, even when I bought no other new comics.Comment

It's true. Science has proven it. It's 'cos your brain loses the ability to process dopamine as you get older.
>can't wait to see how they undo that one
I'm betting it'll be the same way they ALWAYS do; reformed SpiderOc will do good for a while, eventually feel guilty about what he did to PeteyOctavius and attempt to reverse the process, chickening out at the last minute. PeteyOctavius will JUST BARELY manage to activate the anti-physics probulator, reversing the process, trapping SpiderOc in his original body.... just as the secret lair collapses. Petey's back, and Doc Oc is dead.... until a secret property of the anti-physics probulator/a space-time rift/an alien device hidden under the lair/intervention of a cosmic deity/whatever instigates the regeneration of ol' Doc Oc; who's no longer old, somewhat crazy (and forgetful 'cos he doesn't remember why Spidey really is....conveniently) and even more desirous of revenge than before 'cos he blames Spidey for his death.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

^What he said...
But I think this is a prime example of one thing wrong with super hero comics: The creator's egos get in the way of the character. There used to be an idea present in super hero comics that any issue of a comic would be a reader's first. Now things are shaken up every 6 months are so, not just to make it into papers and goose sales, but because writers stay on titles too long or get bored with the status quo, and rather than walk away, they wreck the book like this for several months. If Slott couldn't come up with anything better than this, I bet there are any number of writers who had good Peter Parker stories they'd love to tell.
And yes, I know it will all be undone, but the characters are crumbling under the weight of all of these flash-in-the-pan changes.

Looking at Dan Slotts bio I can tell hes been writing for quite a while. I thought maybe he had written a number of Marvel stories in the eighties as well.
With the experience he has I believe this is the type of things beyond his control. Probably a mandate from those above his head. I bet its hard to work for Marvel any length of time now without "giving in" to whatever the company as a whole wants to do with the character. This is probably one of the main reasons they cant get the experienced veterans to do anything anymore.
