    SF El Dorado redux?

I was thinking about how the Superfriends' El Dorado doesn't come across very well in comparison to Apache Chief & Samurai.

His powers seem lame & poorly-defined.

But he could be cool--SF has no occult hero, and his backstory could merge his heritage with Aztec mysticism & legend.

I think he has a lot of possibility.

He sucks IMO...not even one of the "originals" with Apache Chief, Samurai and Black Vulcan...just an add-on to the add-ons

^ I agree with you, but I'm thinking of what could have been.

Barring actually putting Zatanna or Dr. Fate in the SF.

I would have much rather had El Dorado in the Super Powers line than lamoids like Golden Pharaoh and Cyclotron.

His powers were somewhat ill-defined, but Samurai seemed to have whatever power he needed to have as well. I think if they'd just said El Dorado could create illusions it would have worked better.

            No Way Dude ...
Cyclotron was like the Terminator ...
and The Pharaoh's a Pimp. He had them Wings..., and the Staff.
All Dorado woulda been was a Flipp'in Green Lantern Repaint with Superman's Cape and Orions Head.

The HB characters had potential but it was covered in layers upon layers of racial stereotypes. Ever notice how much skin they showed? Did Black VUlcan shave his legs? ElDorado had no nipples. Here's a few redesigns I stumbled across that breathe new life into these guys.

They are a step up from the Chippendale's outfits, but yes a little overdone. I'm kinda partial to Apache Chief.

The 1st Dorado looks like something Perez would come up with.
Try and sew that Suit..., I dare ya.

The 2nd is Red Wolf meets Thunderbird.

The 3rd looks like the Knock Off Character on JLU

                      BTW ...
Vulcan didn't have to shave his legs ..., He zapped that Hair off Every Morning. Like when Superman uses his Eye Beams to shave.

I hated it when the brought "Apache Cheif" into JLA and made him Manitou Raven. What an ugly character design...

Random Axe--I get your point, but they are no more token IMO than secondary ST: TOS crew members. ALL the Superfriends are pretty one-dimensional for 2-D characters. I like their costume designs; when Hawkman puts on a shirt, so can Samurai.

Admittedly, El Dorado is probably the worst of the lot. But each character, including the Wonder-Twins, has the grains of a great idea that could be modernized/expanded:

                              *Zan--inorganic shape-shifting (a la Metamorpho)
                              *Jayna--she's fine
                              *Apache Chief--heightened senses/tracking, healing, super-strength/durability, growth
*Samurai--fighting prowess/tactics, control/manipulation of traditional elements, which also allow flight
*El Dorado--occult and alchemical powers--incl. flight, teleportation, & illusion casting, ties to Aztec myth

I omit Black Vulcan--we all know he should have been Black Lightning.
