Ditto that. I mean, Batman is frequently thought of as being at least as good a detective as old Sherlock Holmes, only he wears a batsuit!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I'd love to see "The World's Greatest Detective" - I don't think that will sell but picture batman who lurks in the night, investigates, deduces, and has cool gadgets but not batplanes and fistacuffs.

The two Robert Downey Jr Sherlocke Holmes movies reminded me very much of the the bronze-age Batman. Certainly, Downey Jr's Holmes is more eccentric than the 70s Batman, but the fighting styles, disguises, detective work and the plots and story construction of the films were very much in tune with the way Denny O'Neil wrote Batman in the 70s as cocktail featuring varying degrees of Holmes, Doc Savage, Bond and the Shadow, and up until Dark Knight Returns and Batman Year One, most Batman writers largely followed his template..

Obviously the success of the recent Holmes films has a ton to do with the likeability of and chemistry between Downey Jr. and Jude Law, but I think a film playing up similar aspects of Batman could be popular. I'd like to see a Batman film that does show at his core, Batman is a detective, not just an excellent fighter with wonderful toys.

Nolan did a nice job of incorporating a lot of aspects of Batman's character into his films and touching on or borrowing from a manuy of key storylines from the last 25 years, but he and for that matter the first four Batman films really whiffed on Batman being a detective. Of course that aspect of Batman hasn't been used as much in the comics since Miller coined "The Dark Knight" from the bronze-age moniker "The Dark Night Detective."

^True dat, although Batman was called "The Dark Knight" in a few early Golden Age stories.

Nolan hinted at the detective side of Batman in each of his films, but I would like to see that part get more screen time. Other than that, they did borrow from O'Neil/Adams, Englehart/Rogers, and of course Miller and Loeb/Sale quite a bit.

I would love to see Bruce Timm and his crew given a chance to do live action with complete control. I think a DC superhero movie would be close to how I want it then.

Not sure if someone whose worked in animation his entire career could pull it off though. Miller had mixed results himself.

Brad Bird has done VERY well in live action thus far. I wish Timm would get complete control of the DCU, in movies and in the comics. His crew knows how to handle those characters and make them fresh better than anyone before or since.

Levitt is a great actor, and I love just about all the movies he has been in, but he is way too small and slight for Batman.

Levitt would rule as Nightwing, but NOT as Batman.
