^Ah, so Amazon has it too. I was totally confused by all of this. I don't think it's going to end up in stores though, and you can only get the Ordway cover through WB.

"I've read that the initial run of these sets is supposed to be factory pressed, not MOD."

Regarding the above quote from this thread, what is the difference between the two?

Is the quality of the sound / picture better on the factory pressed discs? Is the labeling of the discs and / or packaging different?

        Thank you for your input.

I would love to see someone do a review of the set when they get it. Would like to know how the picture and sound look. Are these descent remasters? And are there any really good special features to it?

Got my copy in the mail today and a bootleg copy of "The Halloween that Almost Wasn't." I'm going to have some cheesy 70s fun tonight or possibly fall asleep bored silly. Hope it's the former.

Can anyone confirm if this first run of Shazam sets are factory pressed DVDs or DVD-R?

I got my set today. I don't have any other MODs, but these look like factory pressed DVDs to me. There is full-color artwork on each disc. Not sure if that means anything.

Looks to be NO extras, and not even an episode guide. WB did the same thing with the Flash set a few years back. Glad to have them...but I'm sure Michael Gray, Jackson Bostwick and John Davey would have been willing to participate. Where was Andy Mangels when you needed him?

Well bummer. You would think they would do a retrospective on the series with some interviews. Oh well. How is the picture quality and sound? Did we get a quality transfer?

The difference between factory pressed and MOD burned is basicaly that a factory pressed DVD is more precise (with the bumps and valleys that the laser reads to get the data) and is easier played by any DVD player. a burned DVD is playable on the majority of players but the data is burned on the disc in a less precise manner (using a phase shifting ink) which could cause reading problems on some machines, especially older ones. If it plays, there is no difference in quality. There is also speculation that burned media will not have as long a shelf life as pressed media but no hard info on that.

BTW, the set I got from WBshop is pressed.

Do these episodes appear to be uncut?

Thank you Mego73 for your response to my post.

Your response is very informative and helpful.

Much appreciation for your time and insight.

On another note, my impression from some of the information posted was that these sets were going to be made to order. As the dvd sets are available on Amazon will they now be factory pressed, or does Amazon sell non-factory pressed (I'm sorry I don't know the technical term) dvds?

                            Thank You.

Amazon does sell manufactured on demand DVD-Rs. The Man from Atlantis and Ron Ely's Tarzan TV series sets are made this way. They seem okay, but there are no extras and chapter skipping is a bit different than standard DVDs. I'm happy with them, because there are a lot of things we're able to get this way that they would never risk a big production run on making in normal DVDs form.

EDIT: Earth 2 Chris mentioned the printing on the disc. The MOD discs have this on some of them, too. The Tarzan television series I mentioned has it and is really nice; yet, the MOD Gordon Scott movies don't.

Thank you torgospizza. I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge. Also, thank you for adding the part about the Tarzan tv series being available. I wasn't aware of that.

Sorry for this bit of off-topic. It would be great if they would release the Tarzan cartoons from the 1970's on DVD. I looked for them on Amazon, but could not find them. Only certain episodes on compilation DVDs.

Back on topic. Is the poster that I saw mentioned on this forum that has the artwork cover of the Shazam dvd available from Warner Bros.? It would be a great bonus with the purchase of the dvd set.

Thank you to all the contributors for making this such a great topic.
