But this time he's really dead. He accidentally poisoned himself by using a 40 year old outdated jar of Dr. Chromedome's bald guy head polish.

Maybe, instead of actually bringing him back, they could just roll his bald corpse around in the wheelchair WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S style for a few issues, just to soften the blow.

Amen to that!
The first thing that went through my mind when I saw the caption was "Again???? Haven't they filled their quota of bumped off X-characters?"
Although, I say, the man is older than dirt, let him rest in peace already.
I know that comic characters don't age in the same way that real people do, but come on! Charles was a veteran of the Korean War! And he was just a kid then! That would make him at the very least in his seventies or eighties. He's old enough to be my dad, and I am really giving away my age here.
The writer's couldn't think of anything else to do with him, after putting him back in the wheelchair, so now they've killed him off.

Here's an idea...why not just let these characters RETIRE. Have Charles lose his mutant powers, and he goes off with Moira or whomever, and he just doesn't come back!!! It would a refreshing change... a happy ending for a hero who deserves it. Like a recent movie whose name I won't mention.

That's not a bad idea at all, but I think it'd suffer from the same problem as characters dying: EVENTUALLY they'll be back 'cos there aren't that many permutations you can use, and everybody wants the known names instead of new characters. (Didn't Xavier retire way back in the day, with Ilandra? For a while?)
Time is another problem: it doesn't pass in a superhero comic. Having someone retire (like someone actually dying) creates a fixed point chronologically, which doesn't work in a superhero comic. Especially a Marvel one, which uses real life as it's base. According to established history, Reed Richards, Ben Grimm and Magneto must all be in their 90's by now since they were all active in WW2.

Yeah, this is the third or fourth time he's dies. But I think the big deal this time, is that he was killed by Cyclops... the man he spent a lifetime training to take his place. Very Sith-y.Comment
