Unless they've killed him off so his "return" to the Justice League is more dramatic..(come on you KNOW that's gonna happen)....it was a pretty pointless death.....Ted Kord's had much more impact and was well written....until they brought him back of course...

I have a hard time believing that he stays dead for too long.

^ Blue Beetle was snatched before his death by Booster Gold, who as mucking around in the time stream. So, for the time being, the Blue and Gold team is back together. The catch is though that they can't let anyone know they're protecting the time-stream.
Everyone has to still think Booster is a loser and that Beetle is dead. It's a great book..catch it now while it's still being written by Geoff Johns...he's leaving soon.

If you listen to the DC panel from the 07 New York Comic Con, Dan Didio mentions at that point that the Manhunter is back for good.

I don't think he will stay dead for long.
