Yet another kill off a character to bring him attention.....it's about good story telling..... ooops I keep forgetting it's about selling toys and T-shirts....
Jason Todd was indeed put to death by the phone-in campaign, which was orchestrated and sponsored by DC. He's back though so the point is moot.
I think it's hilareous how some folks are still trying to demand their money back since it had cost them a buck or so for the privilage of voting to kill him in the first place!
Instead of killing J'onn, how about if the new Captain America volunteers to kneecap him?
I started reading the Justice League during the satellite years. That was when MM was back on Mars. Right around the time that Firestorm joined. Was it JLA 179 or something that he was on a tour of the satellite and Red Tornado was thinking about all of the heroes who joined the league over the years and that was displayed over a two-page spread? I just remember Hawkman, in flight in the middle of the page. Very cool.
Seeing the Justice League animated series and reading more current League comics, I really enjoy seeing how well MM has been used. I like how he and Batman have worked together.
I'm really tired of characters being killed off in comics.
Honestly, the only worthwhile death in (DC) comics ever - aside from The Waynes - has been Barry Allen's. Marvel? Uncle Ben.
Dead is dead. I'm looking at you Bucky/Gwen Stacy/Jason Todd.

The satellite era "New Mars" or whatever it is called was retconned out after Crisis on Infinite Earths.

...Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Hal Jordan, Oliver Queen, Colossus, Alfred, Sherlock Holmes, Magneto, Professor X, Jean Grey, Reed Richards, The Thing, Wonder Woman's Mother, Steve Trevor, Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn, Red Skull, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Doom...
All of you should have stayed DEAD! How else are characters like Loose Cannon, Omega the Unknown, Ragman, Foolkiller, Sleepwalker, Nightmask, Major Bummer, Heckler, Anima, and Sarge Steel supposed to get a shot at those coveted positions on the comic book A and B Lists?
"There are internet rumblings that Barry Allen may be returning...."
I really liked the way that it was done the last time - it turned out be The Reverse Flash with amnesia, didn't it?
Samurainoir -
"Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Hal Jordan, Oliver Queen, Colossus, Alfred, Sherlock Holmes, Magneto, Professor X, Jean Grey, Reed Richards, The Thing, Wonder Woman's Mother, Steve Trevor, Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn, Red Skull, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Doom...

I wouldn't say that.
Look at the way some of these characters died. Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty went over the falls because Conan Doyle wanted to end the series. He was persuaded by the popularity of the character to bring him back for further adventures.
Barry Allen died heroically. I think he deserves to rest in piece.
Bucky, Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy died tragically. Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy died to enforce the "With great power comes great responsibility" theme for Spider-Man.
Some of the other characters died for different reasons - they all died to move a story or a storyline forward.
My own personal, goofy belief (I admit) is that Superman died for all the wrong reasons. The main reason was that it was a stunt. Kinda like shooting and paralyzing Barbara Gordon.
Hal Jordan's death was another disappointment. I don't think the character was handled very well during the '70's and '80's - again my own personal, goofy pet peeve. I read the '90's re-launch and thought it was pretty good - up to the Cyborg Superman destroying Coast City, and Hal going berserk. A great story, just really hard to absorb. It was a terrible shame that he became Parallax and then The Spectre.
Maybe there are some characters I can't really see dying in the first place. Maybe there are some characters I can't see why they should come back.
My favorite death is the "transitional" Starman, David Knight. Killed in the first issue, Jack Knight becomes the hero and from then on, David is a ghost and he and Jack visit once a year. Ted Knight died during the run, and several JSA members have been offed over the years and no one has seen any reason to ressurect anything but the name, mantle or similar powers.

NO, They should have NOT been killed in the 1st place. That was Obviously poor writing in the comicbooks, in efforts to generate a fast buck. Thier respective "returns" corrected that Crap.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.
^^^ Exactly, lazy writers go for the big splash of offing a big name character instead of trying to figure out what works with that character. Byrne's "death" of Dr. Doom was well handled, and it was very obvious from the get go what happened. I really liked the way Ollie was brought back, too.
You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks
I have seen Martian Manhunter regrow his body from his severed hand. The more I think about it, this guy might be "dead" but I am starting to doubt he'll stay dead only for a short period.

I guess I'm cynical after collecting for umpteen million years, but I couldn't care less what characters DC kills off because the characters weren't alive in the first place.
Following continuity beyond some basics (like Batman drives the Batmobile and works in a cave, Superman's friends are Lois and Jimmy) pretty much sucks anyway, so no matter what some writer or editor does to your favorite, there are always hundreds, maybe even thousands, of previously published stories that you can still enjoy. So, killing off MM is irrelevant because all of these old stories are still around. Plus, they'll probably just retcon him again and bring him back in a few years just like every other "dead" comic book character. They brought back Bucky and Jean Grey, didn't they?
As far as I'm concerned, the stories I don't like don't count anyway.
I sort of liked his original incrnation (the 50's version detective) and Dematis made him funny in JLI. frankly i got my fill of him recently with JL/JLU animated. at this point let him exist in the new frontier universe only. Until someone can write a good story for the secret identity John Jones let j'ohnn Jonnzz stay away
Unless they've killed him off so his "return" to the Justice League is more dramatic..(come on you KNOW that's gonna happen)....it was a pretty pointless death.....Ted Kord's had much more impact and was well written....until they brought him back of course...
ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF IT British by birth....English by the grace of God. Yes Jamie...it is big isn't it....
