    He looks too generic

He looks like any other modern actor

If I passed him on the street I wouldn't even realize it was him.

Ok Hector ... tell me why i'm sooooooo wrong and out of it

The above could be applied to everyone who has portrayed Superman. The key with the character is he's an everyman, a farm boy from Kansas with extraordinary powers. Being super handsome is not one of those. The key will be his believability on-screen. George Reeves was Superman. Chris Reeve was Superman. Brandon Routh was almost Superman. Dean Cain was not Superman.

The most important component to Superman is not his powers but his humanity. Now, I'd sure like to see some train-throwing and heat vision battles in the movie, but what I'm after is the believable icon the Big S on his chest represents. What makes me nervous about the film is that Clark/Superman has never, ever questioned his morality or right and wrong. It seems like Nolan/Snyder are inserting self-doubt into a character that has previously had none. That's a dangerous path if not done properly.

Thank you for not mentioning pouty-lipped pretty boy Twilight Edward like 90120 Tom Welling, he will NEVER be Superman in my book, he wore the suit in the LAST episode for a few seconds in only long shots after a friggin' decade on the air...that's not Superman...NOT EVER.......lol.

As much as I love Chris Reeve's Superman, I think it's time for a new interpretation. George was great, but Chris didn't try to emulate him, so Cavill shouldn't be saddled with playing Reeve's Superman like Routh was.

And I agree with Scott, it's all in the portrayal. There is a self-confidence and intrinsic belief in doing what is right that needs to ooze from this guy. George and Chris had that. You never doubted for a moment their conviction to the role.

Now if the script calls for that in the character...I'm not sure how that is going to work. I tend to agree with Mark Waid's take (that he had to go against for Kingdom Come) Superman is ALWAYS right.

I suspect most people will LOVE this movie for the first few weeks.

Eventually people will talk and people will come to the conclusion it's not as great as thought.

Within 6 months it will be another Superman Returns.

This happens when people plan on loving something before they see it.

^I like it. It's a good movie, but I've said this a million times...it's the WRONG movie. It's not a franchise restart, it's a franchise ENDER. It's odd...and I can't really see why it got greenlit as was, since WB wanted to reboot the franchise.

In a way, III and Returns are a lot alike. They both have some really good moments, but the overall idea of the film is very flawed, and not the kind of Superman movie anyone wanted to see at the time. III is too much of a straight comedy (and an unfunny one at that) and Returns is too introspective and emo.

I hope they go back to using New York City as Metropolis

Returns turned Metropolis into a kinda Gothem City

As a huge Supes fan, it pains me to say this, and I love Chris Reeve dearly, but Superman 3 & 4 sucks, sorry.
