Totally caught me off guard...he was supposed to appear in allentown last weekend but cancelled. I was hoping to catch him in baltimore next month. Sad news, he was truly one of the best comic artists ever.
Tarzan, Sgt Rock, Tor, Hawkman, Ragman, on & on...so many characters touched by Kubert.
RIP Joe, RIP.
My original plans out of high school was to go to the Joe Kubert School of Art and Cartooning...Unfortunately that never materialized but he was a big influence nonetheless.

WOW! I am completely floored by this information. Very sad to hear this news. I can say that I did have the pleasure of meeting him at the Legends show in White Plains a few years back. What's even sadder is that at that show were 4 artists that have passed...Martin Nodell, John Buscema, Jerry Robinson, and now Joe Kubert. I had met 3 of the 4 for the first and only time at that show. To me there will only ever be 2 artists that can do Hawkman justice and define the character...one is Murphy Anderson and the other was definitely Joe Kubert. RIP Joe.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".
With his work at his school all these years, I daresay he was more influential that all the other legends like Kirby and Ditko. I absolutely loved Sgt. Rock as a child.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
